would be good to get more info on how to set the correct permissions in IAM. Giving full Admin privileges is very bad practise for safety

This video was very useful. Thank you very much. I did run into an issue during the process that took some digging to get around. When importing the .ova file, the process hung at 27% with statusmessage - updating. There is no error message and no feedback to indicate that there is a problem. It just sits like that permanently. I found out that the issue is caused by AWS not being compatible with UEFI VMs. Once I created a new BIOS VM and uploaded that, it imported without a problem.

I am uncertain whether migrating two or three virtual machines will function on the default VPC, or if it is necessary to create separate VPCs.

Anyone else getting The t3.medium instance type does not support an AMI with TPM version v2.0. Specify an instance type that supports TPM version v2.0, and try again. Win11

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to upload a 15GB ".ova" virtual machine to AWS. Following the procedure in the video I got up to step 7 without problems. But after using the "import-image" command from step 7, when I then run the "describe-import-image-tasks" command from step 8 I get the following error: "Status": "deleted", "StatusMessage": "ClientError: Disk validation failed [Detected truncated TAR input (probably OVA)]", What could be the cause of this error? Please help me. Thanks in advance for any help.

i imagine based on your ealier comment, that this error stems from the issue you were having in step 4. unfortunately as i am only following the AWS instructions and demonstrating how it works, i am not able to say what this error is. all i can suggest is to look at the AWS documentation that covers this and you can see me use in the video.

Just add region flag to the command: aws ec2 import-image --description "My server disks" --disk-containers "file://C:\import\containers.json" --region BUCKET_REGION

fraid not as there are licensing issues i don't want to fall foul of The licensing for Window 10 and Windows 11 is quite restrictive and complex. In fact you will probably have noticed even for Windows server i stick to the freely available Evaluation versions, that Microsoft allow you to download freely from their website, and even then only look at deploying them to VPS providers that sell full copies of windows server so you can always upgrade to them if you need to. Plus it ensures that their infrastructure deals fully with windows server. That way I always aim to stay within any licensing complications from BOTH Microsoft and any VPS provider.
