The preface of the Trinity Hymnal (1961) says that in many churches where preaching has departed from the Word of God the sole remnant of sound theology is found in the hymns that are sung. So true...so true.

Thank you for this discussion with Robert Morgan. These 3 books have been a source of comfort and blessing to me. His other books are wonderful as well, especially The Red Sea Rules and The Promise.

So awesome! I firmly agree with Mr. Morgan. If the great hymns of our faith are somehow forgotten by the next generation, a lot of pure theology will also be missing. Thanks for this enlightening video and interview!

Sadly too many churches today have got sucked into believing they must entertain the congregation with contemporary “worship” with most people standing in the congregation with their hands in their pockets or at best swaying a bit but merely “listening”. Every worship leader and pastor and elders should sit in the back and observe. Hymns will cause more individuals to enter into worship by participating singing worship. Be honest with yourself. If the congregation isn’t participating something is wrong with the methods and techniques of worship

I definitely agree that we need to not only keep the old hymns but continue writing new songs. We can’t have only old and no new, or only new and no old. Why throw out thousands of tried and true songs for the top 40 praise chart, which it seems like a lot of churches have done.

Thanks for the thoughts. We are agreed. A healthy approach of new and old are a great way to approach music in the church. Appreciate you watching. I hope you’ll subscribe for future videos.

Most modern Christian music I dislike intensely. I also dislike drums in churches too. I wish they would bring the hymns back because I dread standing for an hour listening to 7-11 songs that are boring to sing.

I notice a more "professional" video editing in this video. What changed?
