Importance of Personal Space in Relationships | Why women need it? | Malayalam | Dr. Mary Matilda

Personal space and freedom in a relationship are essential for the growth of the individual irrespective of gender. In a couple relationship, more privacy or space is crucial to their happiness. A study was conducted in divorced couples, and it was reported that 29% of spouses said they did not have enough "privacy or time for self”. More wives than husbands reported of not having enough personal space and freedom for self. Though both genders require space and time to relax and be themselves, women are less likely to receive that in their relationships. However, most often women stay silent on this issue. Their silence arise from the ingrained mindset that personal space and freedom are ‘forbidden’ for a dutiful wife and a good mother. In this Malayalam video, Dr. Mary Matilda explains what is meant by personal space and freedom in a relationship. It makes couples happier and less bored when they each have their own set of interests, friends, time for self and freedom. This allows each couple member to maintain their individual identities while still being together as a couple. It fosters independence and strength in relationships. She also answers the crucial question "How to ensure personal space and freedom without distorting the balance?” Putting yourself as priority and doing things just for you does not necessarily make you a bad wife or mom.
