100% agree. And its more and more difficult to find OFC.

Love your content and been a follower for many years…. But… todays vid I started a mental count of the ‘really really’….. lol… count em…. Theres a lot…..a really really lot…. (Edit)… now as for the comment on this topic you are spot on,OFCmarine grade i use as well. Good for motorcycle mods as well. I also found using a marine grade ground block inside the cab (or on bike) is a good way to get easy to access grounds for things you add on as well. I use the BlueSea brand but there are other good ones as well….

You can almost tell CCA just by feel. Stranded OFC is super flexible. Stranded CCA almost feels like solid copper wire.

I had this happen to me on a utility trailer. I kept cutting the wire back to splice in a new piece and the entire Amazon harness had turned to dust in the jacket.

Knukonceptz has OFC wire that's tinned and rated for marine Use. And they actually show power ratings for the wire

Question for you I need to rewire one of my dual tandem gooseneck trailers and I’m having trouble finding 7 wire harness for them most that I have found are only 3-4 house wiring and I know that isn’t what I need even if it’s not solid wire. Thank you

its not worth it to use CCA WIRE I'm into car audio of the big build kinds where 20,000 watts rms to on past 100,000 watts rms is pretty normal for me to be dealing with high power numbers alot and not just the powerloss you get from CCA wire is not worth it esp when every watt counts in car audio kicker car audio has a video demostrating just how bad CCA WIRE IS vs OFC and they show you how it not only looses you power but if left on with 500 watts just how long it takes for it to melt its insulation jacket off and turn the power wire into a big heating coil that will burn ur vehicle down to the ground.. i know OFC wire is usually double the cost now days but its not worth it but if u must buy CCA BUY IT DOUBLE THE SIZE BIGGER so if need 8 gauge then buy 4 gauge and im talling on runs under 10ft-15ft but that only helps with the powerloss the heating problem will still exist so its just wise to use OFC its a small investment but It'll be a permant solution where CCA won't be

CCA is Copper Cladded Aluminum. Basically aluminum wire made to look like copper but with all the characteristics of aluminum. So the same rules apply like double the size wire for the same current capacity, no direct mating with copper (leads to severe oxidation of the aluminum) and so on. But you also don't need OFC wire. Car manufacturers use plain copper. So why shouldn't you?

Ancor marine wire, tinned copper with thicker insulation.

This has been a big thing in car audio for years. CCA is garbage!!

aluminum has no place in electrical wiring, it's biggest problem is that it expands and contracts with temperature far more than copper. it's also far softer than copper and is prone to being nicked by wire strippers. aluminum wiring was used in houses for a few years but was banned in the mid 1980s for these very reasons. it was even worse than cca, it was just aluminum so the surface was prone to corrosion

@stevem268 And what type of conductor is still used for overhead power lines and even inside buildings? Aluminium... It's used more and more. Cheaper, easier to get, doesn't get stolen like copper and so on.
@stevem2683 ай бұрын
@@Richard1977 not inside buildings since the early 1980's

Where does one obtain OFC wire?? I need to rewire my 21ft landscape/equipment trailer, thanks for your time and information!!

You say it’s expensive, but so is whatever you’re putting in on. I appreciate you letting us know the difference but again aluminum wire is junk.
