George, we all get lazy about wearing PPE. At my work we were given a talk on safety and if we saw it through to the end we were presented with a kit containing glasses, gloves, ear plugs and a disposable boiler suit. I decided to put them all on when I was stripping paint from my garage door. I was using a flail. This was a drum with spring loaded tines mounted in a power drill. Things went reasonably well until two tines fatigued, broke off and, as if by divine intervention, both hit my glasses. Had I not been wearing them I think I would have been blinded. I retired the flail and gave it to our safety department as proof positive about the wisdom of wearing eye protection. Its good we both got away with it so others can learn from our experience - its not just theoretical!

I wonder: Are the occasional accidents or the close calls more effective in spreading safe practice around? I suppose it doesn't matter -- both will be forever available on KZbin. I'm glad to hear you were spared. (And just yesterday I was without glasses, but went upstairs to fetch them before turning on the table saw.)

I've seen many mishaps over the years and I'm also in the middle with safety things, usually due to time but recently started to take much more care. I'm happy to hear that you are good my friend 😊 ॐ

Glad to hear it was a good outcome! At my work it is required to wear safety glasses all day, but I still forget sometimes in the shop so I have several pairs and leave them at each machine. For me the best place to keep safety glasses is "in the way" for example on the band saw I keep them right near the power switch. Have you talked about that bench accessory you are using? I would like to know more about it.

What a good idea, to keep safety devices where you can't use the equipment without at least touching them. Makes it so much more likely you'll put them on. I haven't talked about that box -- doesn't have a name yet -- but it's been a long time accessory for working with things at chest level. I have one more modification to make to it -- to clamp things down on the top -- and then will make a short video about it. Maybe, say, early September. Thanks for your interest!
