My friend… I have followed many dog trainers over the past year getting ready for a puppy to arrive home, and I came across this one… first time seeing you in KZbin but it won’t be the last. I almost ALMOST never follow or like in this platform. Your energy, the calmness in your voice, the way that you genuinely laugh and enjoy the connection you have with your dogs clicked in me. I’ll be looking forward for more content. Have a great day and know you are doing something amazing

So glad you’re enjoying KZbin Ben. Your joy with and love of dogs is plain to see. And your channel is a refreshingly different: an easy watch, very straight forward and full of really useful and simple insights without any pandering to the algorithms. Congrats on your approach. On suggested topics, nothing has cropped up on my KZbin feed to help me with my two dogs’ manic reactivity in the back of my truck - at every passer by, cyclist, dog walker etc. It’s their very favourite place aside from walks on long lines around the fields here, but I have had to stop going off the farm with them in the truck as they were in danger of breaking the back window! Keep up the good work Ben :)

So this is a tricky one! I’ll definitely make a video if I get a dog in that displays this type of behaviour. However I will say that this is one that’s hard to correct as your in the front seat while they are going nuts in the back 😂. I would usually try a vibration collar, one that works via remote and just use the vibrate function paring a “no” as I pressed the button to interrupt the behaviour. Or condition a remote collar properly for obedience and use it to then handle the situation in the car. The e collar will need doing in the right way as you can go wrong in many ways with it. Worst thing that will happen with the vibration collar is it won’t work at all if your dogs don’t care about the sensation😅

By 2yr old male retriever sits or stands stock still instead of passing another dog on a lead. He isn't aggressive and it's my fault as he now expects to be able to say hi to every dog we meet. I'd like a break down of how to work through this problem.

Hi Ben, can you do a video on reactivity to other dogs ? I’ve got a rescue Lab x that i got in Feb & he is doing really well with his basic training after I’ve followed tips from Your channel & Will’s but I’d like to understand more about threshold of reactivity and how to judge when to redirect his behaviour when other dogs are around. I find that I can lure him brilliant when I’ve good sight of other dogs and can plan the lure but, when a dog appears from say round a corner or out of a house, he can easily redline where I have to get him away from the situation. Thank you, Simon.

Great vids! We just adopted a 11 month dog. He is awesome, but it is hard to make him chill on his own. If he is awake he DEMANDS cuddles and games, otherwise he will bark and make a mess. It doesn’t matter how much exercise we give him. Any tips on how we can train him to just chill and play by himself would be amazing!

Thank you! So this is actually a topic that I personally prefer to get into in person! The concept of teaching a dog how to understand an e collar is actually pretty simple and there is loads of great videos already on KZbin about how to condition one. I find that each individual dog takes to the training in different ways so for me to make a video I was happy covered all eventualities it would end up being 6hours long! Deffo worth checking out the content already available but This is defo one to get some in person training for in my opinion.

Hey Ben I hope all is well. I haven't seen any of your posts since coming away from Instagram. I would like to understand, behaviour modification. I want to learn about a dog just chilling out in every environment. I would like to learn about dogs being neutral around anything that might trigger a dog. I don't seem to get notifications, might be doing it wrong but I miss your posts. I've always been impressed with how you explained dog training.

Socialization and desensitization are the pillars to the success of what you seek. In personal experience at least, I took my dog stores, farms, etc and did training all in those areas (of course we built up to that) For example I knew a farmer who was vaccinating his cattle, so i was in the building with the dog, and there where bulls and steers and cows running through LOUD metal banging MOOing etc.... I mastered complete control in those situations (of course in a safe matter) and then any public situation was a walk in the park. I highly suggest training on a farm somewhere, so many smells sounds etc... if you can if not just find places to go, And see all things as possibilities, dogs walking by, or houses that have dogs behind fence loud etc, just exposure exposure, exposure, etc... :D Hope my over tired ramblings helped lol But it all comes down to exposure and socialization. Socialization and desensitization are the pillars for your dogs behavior, without those two you gonna have hard time doing anything

@@littlewigglemonster7691 It all down to exposure and being able to train around distractions so your dog becomes more focused on the handler and gets used to the environment that you set your dog up in for success. Thank you 🙏

@@vinceking7651 exactly sir! I asked my home Depot when they get shipments for example. Then went there ( again obviously safely, safe enough far away from them but close enough it was a distraction and wasn't a liability to them ) did training there. Or if you find city workers doing road repairs etc et etc. train your dog in busy situations. It is the classic "my dog does it in the home but on walks" quote many speak. Take your dog to places that you can train don't be shy to ask either so many say go for it. There was football practice near by me, so if I could train behind fence. Screaming balls flying whistles etc. Worked on down and heel etc. You get it lol. Good luck :) 👍

@@vinceking7651 just wrote long message but was deleted for some reason Anyway yes. Find training situations, most often it is the place you avoid. Build up discipline in busy areas you'll be golden. I even ask people with psychotic dogs if I can train beside them ( usually some mentally ill little dog, ,) or ask if you can walk beside them etc
