Hi Charlie, I am planning to get a Dreambike conversion kit and to use a Bafang central motor. I am interested in the possibility of using a front motor, 1000W, 120 Nm. The advantage would be I ken keep the front derailer with the three sprokets, useful in a mountain road like the one i need to travel on. My doubt is: will it resist spinning on a hard incline? As i said,I have to use it on a mountain road, with 12% incline, what is your experience?

i really love the dreambike conversion kit... just check the spokes as a regular thing... even with thread-locker/locktight applied... i still have to have a spoke tightening session... but, i still really love these conversion kits... i also found that buying from 'reliving mobility' was a better solution than buying from brazil directly... high recommend to jim and reliving mobility... in my way of thinking... applying the electric power to the rear wheels is redundant because the rear wheels are already 'driven' by pedal power... with the awesome rear differential, (that applies power to both wheels and importantly it also applies power to the wheel on the ground should a wheel lose traction unlike a 'normal' differential that applies the power to the wheel in the air and not on the ground, (spins 2x and breaks spokes when it hits the ground going 2x)... anyhoo... in my thinking... putting the real power to the rear wheel is redundant and considering the simplicity of front wheel conversion... overly complicated... though i do see the wisdom of applying the power to the machine... where it was designed to be applied... on the mid-drive model... i really like that and i haven't actually used one or worked on one... so, i don't know enough to say one way or other for certain... but... the front wheel drives are extremely simple and only have minimal moving parts... and you get actual '3=wheel drive'... and using the front wheel to 'pull' is a huge asset... especially in off-road situations or loose gravel... trying to 'push' your tricycle through such obstacles is much harder than having the front 'pull' you through them... in my experience... again... can't say enough good things about the dreambike differential... and i have been pretty hard on it... so far... so good... you are very correct in that going uphill on a tricycle... you lose traction/weight on the front wheel as the incline increases... a real bummer... placing as much weight on the front as practical is a pretty good solution... a big front basket... i only convert schwinn meridian tricycles to the dreambike conversion... a fantastic combination... schwinn meridian has a great frame... very comfortable and usable... but schwinn meridian has no differential(one wheel drive)... no gears/speeds... and kind of crappy band/drum brake system... the dreambike conversion kit solves all the problems the schwinn meridian tricycle has and makes a great tricycle instead of just another 'bike with 3 wheels'... i put 3 sprockets on the front drive and as high a gear ratio as i can... no derailleur... i just switch the sprockets by hand... granny gear for off-road... mid gear for 'in town'... and high gear for the highways... i can still contribute up to about 25 mph with 'high/high' gear... huge increase in range because of the gears... most of the time i stay in high range/5th gear... 21 speeds is very nice... especially if i lose electric power and have to rely on pedal power... i use the schwinn meridian rear basket which is substantially more heavy duty than the basket that comes with the dream-bike conversion kit... i use the dream-bike basket as a front basket and it works very well... i designed a simple 4" flat metal mount that clamps on with 1.5" exhaust clamps to hold the dream bike basket on the front... above the front wheel... where i can put upwards of 40 pounds of cargo... i hope this helps... god please bless and keep us all (:~:)

also... be sure to use a 'torque-arm' on the axil to make sure it does not spin inside the mounts (:~:)
