Your comment about GBA New Age Goemon being hard to find reminds me of something I came across during my trip to Japan, in 2016. I visited three game stores in a row - Super Potato, and both Retro Game Camp stores. On the counter of EACH STORE, was a copy of GBA New Age. I was a new Goemon fan at the time and at the peak at my "eww, shin sedai stinks" phase, therefore I found it really amusing. Can't believe it's that rare now !

Ah, the "Eww, Shin Sedai Stinks" phase, I know it well. Funny enough, I was at those stores in 2016 and never saw CIB copies, at least any that were under $100. Oh, and about your ranking. It's a solid list, but I thought that New Age Shutsudou was a much weaker version of Shin Sedai Shuumei. It's much shorter, feels like it was just kind of thrown together, has fewer characters with less moves, and the level design felt somewhat generic. And if I remember correctly, its checkpoint system was a lot less fair. The other thing is that while the RPGs weren't highlights, my favorite was probably Mononoke Douchuu, because while it was a bit weird, it at least felt somewhat different from the other, pretty much by-the-numbers RPGs. But then again, I played all the RPGs back when I had much less grasp on the Japanese language, so I could not appreciate the writing or the story that much. :D It was enough to navigate the menus, and maybe a little more.

Happy to hear about your friend--these games are so much fun on their own, but they're phenomenal in coop. If I didn't have my sister to play Legend of the Mystical Ninja with when I was a kid, I'm not sure if I would be such a huge fan of the series to be honest, since I probably wouldn't have made so much of an effort to track down the Japan-only games later in life. I saw some screenshots of that Japanesey game Good-Feel has been working on and immediately thought of Goemon (obviously!). I would love to see it as a Goemon game or an original IP...and yeah, fingers crossed it isn't doomed to the abyss of cool game ideas that never came to fruition.

Definitely, and keeping the spirit of the series helps cover up any shortcomings, in my opinion. It's why I don't despise Kuru Nara Koi on the PS1, despite it being a pretty poorly designed game...great Goemon humor in that one.
@Bloodreign12 жыл бұрын
@@ImportGamingFTW Yet it's the weakest of the Goemon trilogy on the PS1 in my humble opinion. Enemies that take far too long to kill, and not a good side scrolling platformer like many of the other games in the series. Hell it's not even isometric like (it's not side scrolling fully, nor is it overhead), like the first 2 FC games, the MSX game, and the first GB game. It is not even behind the character controlled, like the first N64 Goemon game. It just feels so wrong, and is probably why it's the cheapest game of the PS1 trilogy. The first PS1 game, I hated having no Yae nor Sasuke playable, instead having 2 other playable characters besides Goemon and Ebisumaru (the hand drawn sprites look very nice though). The 3rd "Recycled" game feels just like the old games, many a Goemon 2 SFC vibe felt in it, and probably why it is the most expensive of the trilogy. Sure the rendered character sprites can be a blight on the game, but the platforming and humor absolutely save it.

This one i found real fun to play it's quite suprising what they managed to pull of with the hardware considering, managed to pick it up many maaany years ago for about £15 the box had a slight crease but otherwise mint. It's crazy how some of these titles have gone mad pricewise i never expected them to get this crazy. Especially new age Goemon which i'll never understand as quite frankly both are rubbish they feel nothing like Goemon you could easily swap out the main sprite & you'd barely even know they were Goemon games which makes it more surprising that anyone would want to go for them so badly when they are some of the worse Goemon titles of them all. Used to own both & totally regretted it, completed once & got rid. Hoping one day you get around to reviewing Goemon mononoke sugoroku, i seem to be like the only person out there that really REALLY enjoyed that boardgame. Spent hours & hours unlocking nearly every single card i was just missing 2, with another human opponent it's crazy amounts of fun. But convincing friends was hard so i mainly had to make do with the cheating cpu opponents lol
@ImportGamingFTW2 жыл бұрын
That was a good deal! And here's the thing with me and the "reboots," I used to kind of be "hater" of them, since I just don't like the change in art direction and style/atmosphere...but I think they're actually pretty good games. Not $500+ good like the GBA version goes for at times CIB, but still fun and worth playing. I would love to play the digital board game with friends some day. I ranked it on the lower end mainly because I've only played with teh cheating CPU, as you put it. This is the only Japanese Goemon game I've played and I actually love it. It has some of the most gorgeous spritework on the GBC in my opinion and the controls are nice and tight. I don't know Japanese, but I was able to figure most of this game out just through context clues. I still play it a lot to this day, it's a blast. The _only_ part that I had a problem with was Yae's mermaid segment. The screen's too small to accommodate for all of the villains and obstacles that are thrown at you from offscreen, and you only have three HP with no recovery items. That whole level was infuriating and took me way too long to beat.

Yeah, it's a great looking game with a nice color pallet--I'm a big fan of the look and feel of Game Boy games in general, though. I love to share my favorite games with people, but I hate when it causes the scalpers to increase the price on all games and merchandise. This makes me keep the things I love, a secret. Tldr - Stop buying games at stupid prices.

It's a double-edged sword for sure...at least for people who have any sort of following/audience. For better or for worse, any game I talk about and share with the very few people who come to listen means that prices will not be affected.

@@ImportGamingFTW Don't worry sir, that was not aimed at you! I sympathize with you and I love your content! That Goemon yunomi looks awesome! I didn't even know they made one.

@@ChronicMetamorphosis No worries here! Also, that yunomi was a gift from Kid Shoryuken--it was sold recently at the Container pop up shop in Tokyo when there was another Konami themed sale. I'm sure it will...pop up again soon.

For real--that's the worst game in the entire series!
