I love this trick! Thanks for sharing. When I do it for my less magic-savvy friends I use this exact method, but I have friends who would likely spot my attempt at a top-stack retention, and who who definitely suspect a set-up if I didn't shuffle, so I came up with an extra bit of misdirection and confusion for them: Instead of a single-suit stack of 13 cards I use the 14 odd-numbered clubs and hearts with the ace of hearts as the marker card, at position 14. That way I can start with a full spread to show it appears to be a fairly mixed deck, and my top-stack retention shuffle doesn't attract as much scrutiny. Then I hand the spectator the top thirteen cards and let them shuffle. Then I tell them to cut to any card in the remainder of the deck to get a number from 1 to 13. Then I tell them to find the card in their 13-card stack that is that number from the top, remember it, and place it on the remainder of the deck (on top of the ace of hearts, of course) without me seeing it. It doesn't matter if they look at the cards in their stack as the mix of clubs and hearts will appear random). From here the trick is pretty much the same, the only difference is the card you're looking for after the riffle-shuffles is the first odd-numbered heart or club after the ace of hearts. A nice extra twist on the original (single-suit) version is: just before you start to look through the deck for their card at the end, announce you are going to try to read their mind. While doing your favorite mind-reading gesture tell them "I think your card is red, right? “ then just as you start to search through the deck say "I'm definitely getting a diamond" by this time they'll think you know the card even though you haven't yet located it, making the reveal even more mysterious when you do find it.

Honestly the interlocking chain is one of my favorite principles. One of the first things I look for in an effect is spectator interaction. I want my magic to feel intimate and personal. When I discovered this principle I couldn’t help but smile. The ability to let not one but two spectators shuffle or the same spectator twice... it’s a dream come true for any magician. It’s really difficult to find this principle on KZbin if it’s one this platform at all. Thank u for sharing this with everyone man. Generous as always.

I will definitely be practicing and hopefully perfecting this trick so I can add it to my repertoire. Again, thanks and appreciate you sharing this!

I am not lying when I say this: I LOVE THIS TRICK! Using the 12 numbers on a clock is straight-up GENIUS. I had one observation, however, that I thought I should put into writing: I performed something that was close to this before, where I remembered the 12 cards at the top, did some very convincing false shuffles and made the spectator choose a card from there. But the way you taught me how to retain the top packet of a deck is just amazing, and I will definitely refer back to this video when want to take a look at that again. PS: Really excited about MagicLand coming back, if I got chosen, I would 100% pull 2 all-nighters!

Loved it and wil definitly use it 😀 I've been thinking of a good excuse to count down 12 cards and think I will use the story of the 12 disciples. On wich the spectator can pick out the Judas. Simply amazing 😀

A good way to interact with your students would be to lay out the Twelve cards in the circle of a clock face and ask them to place the card at the time they select on top of the other deck. This gives the student the chance to show you that they know where the numbers on the clock face are positioned. After they place the card they choose on top of your key card, you can just continue as Spidey does.

Very nice trick! It actually adds a deeper layer to a simple "I find your card" trick! 💪 I just want to point a small note to anybody that will try this trick: if the card you use as a reference (in the explanation the ace of diamonds) is near the top of the deck and no other diamonds are after it, it's because when you cut you split the deck in between the ace of diamonds and the chosen card, which will therefore be the first diamond you encounter from the bottom of the deck. P.S. I actually understood the trick because I know a triumph that uses a similar principle with face up and face down cards
