This time I made something really weird! It's a sledge hammer with a soft brass face but it's connected with two dovetail in a way that is possible only via metal casting.
Find some stuff I use for my projects in this amazon storefront:

It's affiliate marketing, so if you order something from here you'll help the channel for free! Thank you!
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!

Might be an option for hammers for use in highly flammable environments (brass doesn't spark like steel does). Looks beautiful, very nicely done!

They are not cheap either. I broke a 30 - 32 in brass pipe wrench inside a resin tank on union and just beating it with wrench a brass hammer. Man my boss was not happy when I shown him the upper jaw broken in half.... He said that was a $900 wrench Blah blah blah. I said well you had better add $900 bucks to the bid or this job! Well Bronze It was but same concept... No sparks. But most flammable confined spaces they would want the entire head done. Just to keep a idiot from making the wrong choice of what side to strike with.

it's possible that there's an air pocket inside that didn't reach the edges. I don't think he meant for the metals to bond, but be secured entirely by the 'impossible' double dove-tail. I agree. Fantastic work.

Dear Mr B B, gesundheit. Love the finished hammer, actually it looked almost good enough before you started. Beautiful work. We always get a chuckle at your 5 x speed hammering. You work with such sure, confident moves. Is that good editing, or are you as gifted as we think? The only thing that can possibly be added is wood glue on the handle before the head goes on. Seals moisture out, no vibration. If the hammer isn't returning to work, please disregard the fussy glue bit. The two tiny brass wedges at 90° were wickedly cool!

I just discovered your channel it is really nice, cool the hammer / mallet 0:45 you turn much too fast, in machining it doesn't matter what material you make, it never sparks. -For a tool with carburettor inserts the shavings should never exceed the dark blue (petrol) color for steel: in order it goes from white to yellow, brown, light blue, petrol blue (perfect), then when you turns too quickly, it goes back to pale blue, returns to the metal color but no longer in chrome, after that it's sparks but it's no longer machining but abrasion. -for stainless steel: the shavings must remain white and you must always lubricate (or blow air at worst) if it yellows = lack of lubrication and/or too fast rotation and/or ruined tool. -For one-piece carburettor and HSS tools (small milling cutters or drills) you must always lubricate, for HSS if your chips do not stay white you are burning your tool: lack of lubrication and/or rotation too fast -if you want more information on machining don't hesitate, it's my job
@siggyincr7447
@siggyincr7447 Жыл бұрын
While I agree with you for most situations, when machining hardened steel with carbide you will generally produce sparks/glowing chips at any practical speed. There is a good chance that the hammer was heat treated. Yeah, it's not ideal and will damage your inserts fairly quickly but oftentimes it's still a viable option if you can't grind it.
@franky-5699
@franky-5699 Жыл бұрын
@@siggyincr7447 let's say it's a 50 diameter tool and it's a very very hard material VC=50 so 320rpm. by eye I would say it runs at 1200 rpm, even if the video is at x2 speed it would be 600 rpm, but maybe I'm wrong. in any case in 20 years I have never seen sparks in a workshop except when a tool is or is going to die
