I love how Nels solos on this performance. Specifically how tasteful it is. He doesn't jump too deep into the ideas at first, he feeds you hints as to what will come. Honestly one of the hardest parts of soloing is staying tasteful, and he's got it down to a t.

Watching him go to work tonight at Moon River Festival was jaw dropping. He tracked a whole song on a loop pedal in his spare time while they played Jesus, etc.. They then switched up to that rythym and it took off from there. Some of the most intense musicianship I've ever seen and front row at that! It was a stellar way to finally say "fuck you" to Covid.

This song sounds like a old elegant oak table that you would find in a thrift shop. The table looks as if it belongs in a castle but here you find it in the middle of a thrift shop. The old rugged carvings make it addicting to look at. You can see it’s life through just one glance at the finished divine stance. It’s the most beautiful, gorgeous, and elegant thing you have ever seen but while also being the most worn, rugged, hard looking thing you have ever seen. You can just feel the presence of home in one piece of wood. That’s the only words I can describe this song as. Weird I know.

+inner city unit solo starts off fine enough and then from roughly 3:35-4:10 it's NOODLING AROUND IN A MAJOR KEY until he goes back to the pre-written melodies you'd hear on the record. got nothing against Nels Cline but to call this one of the greatest solos of all time is ignorant and straight up disrespectful. I was in a no-name jazz bar in Brooklyn last month and some random Philly jazz keyboardist played a solo 10x better than this. We were all floored. It annoys me to think of that brilliant guy struggling to make ends meet because armchair music fans like you would rather circle-jerk Wilco. Fuck off.
@whwh7339
@whwh7339 7 жыл бұрын
nah bud that's a strawman argument that has nothing to do with whether this is a genius level solo. you dodge the actual issue and then try to paint me as some disconnected elitist jazz douche? what does that have to do with this guitar solo we're talking about? is it one of the best solos of all time or not? if so why? if not then why are you comparing it to kind of blue? there's a huge leap in quality between those solos and this one. it's not like i'm in some tiny minority of pretentious snobs who would agree with that. i try to break the solo down and explain why i think it's noodling and your entire response is to go on a tirade about how i apparently think people who listen to wilco are "not as good" as people who listen to ornette coleman. what in the actual fuck are you talking about? and i'm not blaming the fans and the bands at all, fuck you for insinuating that. i'm blaming guys like you who take this fucking solo and then take some of the most incredible music in human history and equate them like there isn't a monstrous gulf in between. people read your bullshit and think "yeah, fuck that other guy, this IS one of the best solos of all time" and then stay in this exact box for years and don't get exposed to a shitload of badass music. you can take issue with me not sugarcoating things or whatever but at least some wilco fan can read all this bullshit and think "man that asshole really likes Kind of Blue, i should check it out."
@shnootch
@shnootch 7 жыл бұрын
kind of blue is modal, one key is where alot of those tunes reside. they were monster players, granted. somebody blurting out their love of a song and a particular solo, more power to them. you love music, right? then don't bother pissing on another's enjoyment. ya know?

What an utterly amazing song. I'm a huge Wilco fan and while I feel their older work is best, this song would definitely be in my top 10. The guitars are absolutely beautiful and Nels' solo is genius. Great fucking song.

dude the transition from the guitar solo back into the jam is so fucking awesome. nels literally plays a distorted version of the chords and transitions with the intensity to make a crazy ass mindfuck

I don’t have much to add to what has been said other than this is one of the absolute best guitar solos/performances I’ve ever heard in my life. I worked in a record store from 1986-2000 and I’ve heard a lot. Nels absolutely killed this on the album and live. So beautiful.
