Excellent narration. I have heard The Real McCoy story many times over the years. Your story telling was right on the money. A little tidbit that your story didn't quite mention, specifically, was that Elijah McCoy became a master of lubrication as a result of his education in Scotland - which contributed to his development of the McCoy lubricator. The man was ahead of his time, but was slowed by the racial barriers of his time. Most people who I am acquainted with do not know the story of The Real McCoy. I enjoyed your telling of the story, hearing it once again. Keep up the good work.

I've got in trouble in high school when a teacher I had said necessity is the mother of invention and said that laziness is the mother of invention. I got paddled and then I said that the paddle was invented to make his life easier! I rest my case. Needless to say I got tossed out of the class. That was 53 years ago and I still believe that. Thanks for the video and the the trip down memory lane...lol

What a nice message and to think of the innumerable possible “Elijahs” are among those similarly seeking a life free of poverty repression and persecution that have crossed and which still await crossing our southern border. I’m glad you have highlighted the untapped potential of our previously disregarded classes and the plight of their struggle for a better life. Why so many want to stand in their way (just as those who stood in the way of Elijah and his family) and in the way of progress itself is beyond me. Well done sir.

Hell, just look at the comments Justin. We love ya bro! You should start a second history of machine and tools type channel. You got that rare story telling gift. You could talk about paint drying and I'd listen intently to every word.

Good gracious what a great story teller/ teacher you are! This was your best video ever, at least for me cause I'm a history nerd. I knew that the "real McCoy" phrase was derived from these oilers but you quite brilliantly filled in all the gaps and made the story whole. We got to wonder what other life changing ideas were stifled by slavery and wars in the past. A little history lesson with all the thing you restore would be good for everyone. The only thing that really matters is what happened because it the reason for what's about to happen. Orson Wells or Rod Sterling couldn't have narrated this any better!

I love your history lessons on the random things that you have to restore. I love seeing the old brought back to life to run or be used again. We have become a throw away society and that is sad to see. People used to fix their broken things, now we just toss it to get a new one. I love the old things that I can still fix. Thank you for doing what you do, and keep on keepen on

Another great history lesson. I see you tested it for spark the old school way. LOL Been there done that. I once heard that people tend to learn things three ways: some learn by watching how to do it, some learn by reading how to do it and then there are those that just have to pee on the electric fence. Glad we can learn by watching.

Yes, Elijah McCoy was the original and the best. With the education he received in Scotland and the grasp of mechanical things that he possessed, McCoy was the master of lubrication.
