Saying that statement out loud would have made a difference in the 1920s or 1850s. It's 2020 so you can't really go "Look! A woman astronaut! Isn't feminism amazing??" One of the many reasons why the modern feminism has failed is that it is stuck in this rut. They fail to acknowledge what they've already achieved and keep fighting for it.

As far as men's jobs and women's jobs, you pick the best person for the job and don't discriminate against either. Making everything 50/50 doesn't work either. But there are jobs that a man or woman would be better doing. For example a fireman: say you were trapped under a heavy beam whilst a building was on fire then the likelihood is a man would be able to lift it off you to safety and a woman (in many circumstances, but not all) not be able to. I'm not saying just women shouldn't be firefighters but also physically weak men too. Obviously this would exclude a lot of women though as men are physically stronger. The same could be said for CCTV operators. Women have better peripheral vision than men, this is a scientific fact (the same as a man is physically stronger) therfore when it comes to CCTV operators it should be predominantly women doing that job. Again, I'm not saying men can't do it but due to peripheral vision being better (in general) in women then it would naturally exclude most men. These are our differences, they should be celebrated and put to use when we can use them to our advantage not disregarded due to equality quotas. The thing is we should all be treated equal but we are not equal from birth and we should try to focus on our strengths and not so much on our weaknesses. Rather than pretending it's an equal playing field, when in reality it never is. It's good to support others but we should push them to follow the path their greatest strengths make easiest. Rather than fighting the way down a path that in all honesty wasn't meant for them in the first place as unfortunate as that could be for them. Which if done, in the end could mean putting other people potentially in harms way just so they can be satisfied...
@lauraphelan58128 жыл бұрын
Awakening to oneness I think that was referring more to jobs that aren't based on specific strengths or weaknesses. If two lawyers, one man and one woman, can do their job equally well, then they should have an equal chance of getting a job in that field.

But why even bring up the gender when it's more about the physical capability? Because like you said, though it is less common there are still many women strong enough to be firefighters. And the same goes for any job women might be more naturally capable of doing. The speakers were focusing on when people refer to a job as a "man's job", which hints that there should be no women working in a certain field. not when there are more men in the field.
@Refulgent_Rascal8 жыл бұрын
1emmyk Yes good point. If that is what she specifically means then of course you're correct. But she didn't specify what she meant by "man's job" so the term she stated is subjective. Whether this means it should be mainly men or only men is debatable. However, a lot of feminists view this in the context I explained above. Which negates logic and rationale.
