The dumpster line is a reference to a point in his life where he was at or close to rock bottom. Long story short he and his friends where doing some things and because of Corey overdosing, his friends left him in a dumpster

They were partying and instead of bring him to the hospital They ended up doing that 😭

They threw him in a dumpster because they thought he was dead. "I've seen the future, and it's simply burning". His "friends" threw him in the trash, and he has seen hell. He was fkn dead

It's not supposed to mesh. Slipknot is all about taking the awkward angle. Especially being inconsistent with rhythm. It's supposed to throw you off. They've always been about making things that don't mesh correctly. Perfection through imperfection.

It's like waves crashing in with some slow(er) relief in between. It's not like normal music and it is "wrong" by that standard, but not everything has to be right to be beautiful. I love slipknot because there's nearly always aggression and screaming, but almost always some breaks to show just their range.

Thank you for dissecting this from your point of view. I’m a Life long slipknot fan. Some People don’t like their music because how hardcore it is, “listen to the meaning before you judge the screaming “ is a quote I believe from Corey I’ve seen but it’s absolutely true.

Slipknot concerts are one of the safest rock/metal crowds. Corey has stopped many a gig before if he's Seen someone fall or potentially get hurt. Also find it funny you said they got in it too fast yet said they're setting the mood 20 seconds earlier. 😂

I went to my first Slipknot concert in 2004 when I was only 15. I was also chemically impaired and on the scrawny side. Other than a few scrapes and bruises from the pit, walked away unscathed. Corey is really good about doing his best to keep everyone safe. Just steer clear of the pits and you'll be fine, it really is a show you have to see. It's ok that you aren't really feeling the chorus cause it does seem like it doesn't match at first but if you listen to it a few times w/o pausing, it does flow a little better, at least to me. The big thing about this song, which a lot of long time fans know, is the line: "There's still a part of me that's dying in a dumpster! The one who rose is a mother fucking monster!" That is actually a true situation from his life. When he was in his late teens (16,17) he was at a party with "friends" and ended up with a lot of cocaine in his system and lost consciousness. Instead of taking him to the hospital, they threw his body in a dumpster and left him for dead. Luckily he survived and that was a wake up call to him to get clean (at least as far as heavy chemicals.) Still want you to hit No Life and Only One. 👍👍👍

The hook is the melody of the song. It's a change up from the hard vocals in the verses, most of their hooks involve clean vocals. It's called contrast.
@staytuned2L3372 жыл бұрын
Personally I like the melodic pauses in their songs - to me it can show a lot in the context of the song it's in. For one, it can show that while yes, they're in pain, and angry and surface level aggressive, there is still softness and vulnerability within them. It can add to the dilemma of their feelings; more often than not, unaddressed feelings of sadness can turn to anger. So, sometimes the softness in the song is the underlying point, and the aggression around it is the armour.
