The fan has a clutch which engage it only when the engine is hot, besides that fan blades takes not more that 1/4 of horse power and the a/c fan is not free energy, too! The main fan also cool down the body of the engine and removes the heat from the under hood area. The usage of 80/20 mixture means the engine is going to be over heated and there fore the engine oil is not going to fully protect the mechanical parts, also the transmission fluid which is cooling by radiator coolant will not cool properly and will fail prematurely. There are idler pulleys ball bearings and the main belt which is cooled by that fan, also the excessive volume of vapor oil feeding back to engine through EGR valve causes to build up soot in air intake and back of intake valve, by removing thermostat you never get a good heat in winter time, also the engine temp lowered and the lubrication failed, the average power out put is 60 to 100 hors power during normal driving, I wonder what is a 1/4Hp could be in term of fuel economy?.... shall I continue?!

No you don’t have to... ) but thank you so much for faithful and honest message! I just got tired because my fan clutch would go out on me and lock the fan pretty often... however it works for me pretty good with universal electric fan, just got a watch out on a hot day

I bought a LT35, basically the same van as the Sprinter(joint development between Mercedes and VW) ....it doesn't have a cooling fan, removed by the previous owner. Has NEVER got too hot...EVER...fuel economy on the non turbo SDI is outstanding....

Hi, I noticed you fitted a fan to the inside of your radiator when you where talking to Zimaletta what type was it, I've been thinking of doing the same to my sprinter and get rid of the irritating viscous fan I visited a electric fan supplier he seemed to think it wouldn't work how have you got on with your conversion any ideas, Regards Martin.

Hello and yes I put universal electric fan , in winter it's perfect, but in summer don't forget to turn it on when you in traffic :-) 253923108368 this is the eBay item number, but you want to make sure diameter fits on your radiator

What was the temp where you're driving? I'm not sure I would chance burning up my motor with no fan. What kind of mileage were you getting before and what kind after?

Lee Olaeta in hot summer Texas, the temperature was a little higher than normal, also when you drive up in the mountains, but any other places the temperature was normal, it gave me about 15% better mpg

Removing the thermostat and the fan is just stupidity. A lot of the time your coolant will be too cold, resulting in increased engine wear and worse economy, and when the mechanical fan is required it will overheat. The electric AC Condensor fan generates nowhere near as much airflow as the mechanical fan!

I would in no way do this, I was just in AZ and it was barely 85º and I had to leave the sprinter running to power the AC for my pups to run inside a business and when I came out, the fan was blasting, so I just chilled for a bit and it would kick on and off, so I wouldn't think this works in hot climates !
