Can you give any idea what DSC charges to adjust the rear caster? Also any insight to changing to the DCS controller? Are there options for those of us that don’t live within driving distance of the DCS World HQ? Thanks!!
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely there are! They sell the controller on their site and you can easily install it yourself (it comes with the same programming I have on mine). As far as the alignment its billed by how long it takes to adjust. Mine was pretty quickly done but it can sometimes take 3 to 4 hours to dial it all in properly since each individual setting changes others (caster change will throw tow and camber out, etc.) There are other shops that can accurately provide an alignment (I hope) and you could give them DSC's recommended specs to have the same thing accomplished.

As far as the DSC controller; what is the cost of that unit versus the factory controller? BTW, I am delaying the purchase of my carbon fiber center console until the fall. Blue skies, Jg
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
I had GM do an alignment on the whole car because I had read that the C7's were heavily cambered right from the factory and wearing out stock tires. I didn't really want to spend 1600 dollars on tires right after buying my car so I figured I'd get it taken care of but I didn't know they were going to throw the rear caster out so badly. The factory GM mag ride update is 350.00 but you literally have no way of knowing if they did it or not. You can find this controller on the Corvette forum used for around 700 - 800.00 or straight from TPC/DSC for 1250.00.

It's amazing to me that GM is still shipping cars brand new from the factory with stuff incorrectly assembled. This is the kind of thing that got them known as producing junk. Corvettes, in general, and certainly upper-end Corvettes in particular, are halo cars for GM - they should come new from the factory in perfect condition. I bought a 96 Impalla SS brand new and it came from the factory with an electrical short in it and a driver's door that was horrendously fit. Interesting how that hasn't changed...

Would this also apply to the C6, since the rear suspension is similar?
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
The alignment procedure itself does but not necessarily the actual alignment numbers. The rear is adjustable on the C6 as well so you would likely run into the same problems having the dealer play with it.

Assuming the toe and camber were about right, do not understand how the caster was out as there is only adjustment for the toe and camber and we watched you man adjust it. How did he pull the wheel forward or backward at an angle?
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
There is an adjustment for the caster as well. Every one of the three affect the others so it's not a simple process by any stretch.

Please tell me the alignment guy TORQUED the adjuster nuts. I do my own c4, c5z, c6z alignments in my home garage (many vids on Froggy's Garage). The spec is north of 150 and you need 2 hands on the wrench to get that, don't care how strong you are. On my c5z I ruined a set of Kumho slicks $$$ in one session because the azzhole alignment guy did not torque any. They all moved, slicks git you bueno grip. That's when I decided to learn, buy equipment & do my own. Go under the car and MARK the settings on the eccentrics so you can tell if they move (while you are there torque them - I don't know the c7 spec. Keep it up good vids dude.

Thank you! He definitely did torque them down, he also marked them before I left so I can keep an eye on it!

With a long enough lever arm (torque wrench) one could torque the 'prop nut' on an aircraft carrier. ;)

Wow! This news seems kind of weird to me.I've grown up having many Corvettes and to me, I have found the opposite. It has always been known by everyone including myself that when you take your Corvette in for an alignment that they have always aligned both the front and rear. I take my C6 into my local Chevrolet dealership and I have never had to even ask them to do that. In fact, I do some very spirited mountain driving once a month with some guys in the Corvette forum and they even set up suspension up for that type of driving and it handles awesome. My Brother has a C7 Z06 and they align his car front and back! So before you go around telling everybody that you have stumbled across this big huge problem that know one knows about you might want to do some more research. What are the odds you found so many dealerships that know anything? To me, that like you found a bunch of tire shops that don't know how to balance a Corvette wheel?
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
They aligned my front and rear that's not what I'm saying. They didn't adjust the rear caster and NO dealership I've found yet knows how to do it. It's very important and a well known issue.

It would have been nice if you would’ve shared the alignment specs.

There is absolutely a way to check to see if the GM update has been performed. Go here: tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web/ Put your VIN in and click Get Cal ID. Select K19 : Suspension Control Module from the list. Click Next. Select Programming. Click Next. Select With Semi Active Damping System and click Next. There will be two modules listed. Operating System and Real Time Damping. Click next. In the Real Time Damping Module, you should see. "New calibration to support performance parts and motor sport catalog customers." This is the update. There will be a part number, listed to the left, which corresponds to the model of your vehicle. I have listed the part numbers as follows. Ive made this list as accurate as possible, because I know that people may stumble upon this video, in the future, and I want them to get correct information. 84353680 (Without Track Mode Change) 2015 Z06 with Z07 Suspension RPO FE7 84353681 (With Track Mode Change) 84353682 (Without Track Mode Change) 2016 Z06 with Z07 Suspension RPO FE7 84363682 (With Track Mode Change) 84375893 2015 Z06 without Z07 Suspension RPO FE6 84375892 2016 Z06 without Z07 Suspension RPO FE6 84375894 2017 Z06 without Z07 Suspension RPO FE6 84353677 2014 Z51 Suspension RPO FE4 84353684 2015 Z51 Suspension RPO FE4 84353685 2016 Base Suspension RPO FE2 84353686 2017 Base Suspension RPO FE2 The thing you need to be absolutely sure about when getting the GM update, is that you let the car sit, static for the appropriate amount of time, after the update is completed. I got mine done about a year ago, and I cant remember how much time it was, 8-10 hours, I want to say. GM has to actually contact customer service with these part numbers to perform the update. But the process I have listed, will tell you if the update has indeed been performed. If the update has been performed, these part numbers, year appropriate, will be listed under Calibration History "Real Time Damping." Also note, unless you have the years listed above, the "Track" calibration setting WILL NOT be enhanced in the calibration file. Touring and Sport are the only modes that will receive an update. Nothing much has changed in the track setting, for these cars. The Sport and Touring modes, drivability was improved. Sport, will be a mode that you can actually drive in. Without the update, Sport is almost as harsh of a ride as track. And in Touring, rebound damping is greatly improved, along the vertical axis, I.E. Soaks up the bumps better.
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
Yup. I've seen that on the forums, but the problem is it doesn't ALWAYS work. The forum shows the same thing. Some people it updates for and others it doesn't. There is NO way to 100% verify it was applied.
@g.dubyou62635 жыл бұрын
I think some of the dealers are just taking money, then and just telling them they installed the update. I noticed it right away. The sport mode is 100% better than it was. And I need to find a place, out here, in California, to see where I can get the correct alignment done. Maybe we should make a thread on the forums to list places to take it that are close to you? Sounds like a good idea to me. I may start one. 👌👌👌

@@g.dubyou6263 I like that idea! It took me forever to find somewhere that could do it and even then it was almost a 4 hour drive!

It could stand to be cheaper but you are really paying for the years of racing experience and R&D on it. You can find it pretty cheap used on the Corvette forum.
