That is a great tip. Just be careful with the straight line lead in. Certain controls do not like cutter comp G41 G42 in line " tangent " with the cut. This can also leave a bit mark when you have to switch to a larger cutter then anticipated. I still arc in to give a buffer between the comp and the cutting.

That was really helpful! Had same issue on a part and just did an overlap but it didn't remove it completely. Starting and finishing on the start of the curve would of made a big difference! Thanks John!

I thing Finishing overlap is the ‘bug’ in the last op. some great info in there Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I haven’t come across make all default before. Ramps cleaned will never have to be adjusted again woohoo

Great stuff. Keep this kind coming! I am getting to be one with the fusion and the 440 thanks to your keen observations and experience in 360 and the tips you put out there. You always seem to put something out at the right time, not long after I may have asked myself, what would John do? I Would love to talk my company into letting me come on out for a class again soon. The last way you did it is exactly how I do it. I hate when other program lead in and out right at the middle of the part, unless absolutely necessary.

Is that dot you are trying to lead out on not the lead in dot? Could you reduce the lead out arc to get your lead out closer to the preferred dot. Doing a great job on the videos John. I'd love to know the basics of how Julie and yourself sync the whole thing together.

I think you looked for the wrong parameter in the end there. The finishing overlap should be under the passes tab. ANd thanks for showing how to set a parameter as default, that's really useful for me. Edit: or your starting point isn't on the edge, since the lead in is straight you wouldn't notice if it's not.

Hi John! Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm a hobbyist with a Tormach 440 and pushing the boundaries of my x-axis working envelope. Do you know of a way to force a SuperFly in Fusion360 to enter/exit from the Y-axis instead of along the X axis? I've been making a few parts that are long in the X-axis (9.75") and so a SuperFly exceeds the boundaries of the machine for lead in/lead out, but I would have plenty of room along the Y-axis for a Superfly to enter/exit. I have been doing this manually so far, but would love a way to integrate it into my Fusion 360 CAM operations. Thank you! (P.s. you were a HUGE factor in my decision to purchase the 440, so thank you again, I couldn't be happier with it!!)

At the top on the "passes" tab change the "pass direction" from 0 to 90.

I would just pick the side of the corner you picked first, but have a radial lead in and make the lead out just go straight out past the corner radius :)

I figured it might be that too, but I whipped up a similar operation and the same thing happened to me. Weirder yet, if I selected a point just beyond the point on the tangent, the apparent offset went away. And even weirder than that is that the bug (or whatever) only happened if I selected the point in the bottom left corner - selecting the equivalent corner geometry 90 degrees away (or 180º or 270º) worked correctly. And the weirdest yet, I made a second slapped-together file and tested it again, this time the lower-left worked as expected, but selecting the lower right made Fusion 360 ignore my entry point selection entirely and start the cut at some idiotic location. Changing the lead-in sweep angle from 0 to 1 degreed made the overlap bug reappear, but again only in the one corner (lower-right in this instance).

I use a huge 1200 inch radius lead out. When you use that over just a inches its almost impossible to see.

Yes, it seems you duplicated the last 2D Contour from a previous one and kept the original operation's finish overlap to a non-zero value. You debugged it yourself by seeing this segment is a finishing move.

None of this should be necessary because if doing oring groove, for example, we are taking a finish pass of .002 If that’s causing a line, then there’s some other technical issue in fusion. I never had this problem in mastercam. Fusion, when milling oring groove round on od. Always get the witness line. Annoying

jomme918 I can’t stand EdgeCAM... I used it for months at work we switch back to GIbbsCAM. The software is so unintuitive and clunky. It’s powerful but not user friendly at all. Not that GIbbsCAM is perfect either but...
