Nothing excites me more than hitting the move of the day in the same sessions roll. I laugh, my partner laughs and its such a fun time. Competitors aside, when you train bjj for fun its fun when its (wait for it), fun

I wanted to say thanks, I started training about 6 weeks ago and much of my motivation came from watching your videos. I'm sore all over, but I'm having a blast! Thanks!

Just finished reading "BREATHE", so the timing of this video is perfect.! This has been a game changer for me. It helps so much with focusing my training and giving me small goals each class. Whether the person I am rolling with is a white belt or brown belt, having something small to focus on has enabled me to learn faster, increase my own body awareness, and learning how to adapt to different looks. Thanks brother!

Just tried out this method today with everyone at my gym. Some rounds I picked my rolling partner's submission while they picked mine. And some were where I had the restriction of say a Kimura or RNC, but my rolling partner could hit whatever they want. The depth of hitting those submissions really kicked in during those rounds. Defense went through the roof while the attacks became more creative. Submissions were getting hit in spots you wouldn't expect them in. This exercise works amazing. It's going to be part of my normal routine now. Thanks Chewy.

“Beware the one gun man because probably knows how to use it.” Relatively new to Jiu Jistu but I have wrestled for 20 plus years and coached for another 20 years at all levels. The greats all have their move and can hit them even though everyone know it’s coming.

Yep, I’m the heel hook guy, and once I started using it a lot my teammates would do a good job of hiding their legs and not being careless when they would try and pass, it forces me to get creative with my entries and has made me a much better leg locker.

Great video. I’m a purple and there are 2 black belts in my gym that I’m friends with not just training partners. When we roll it usually ends with me saying. Damn, I know exactly what you’re doing and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. 😂

When the instructor shows a technique, I practice it like everyone else. And I am already thinking about my counter for the sparring session. 😉

I would be interested in hearing Chewy talk about how he works with white belts trying to get to their blue belt. I'm in that situation and I'm getting better just not sure how to attack the things I don't quite know.

I’m going to focus the next 3 months on taking back, and triangles. No more

Would this be applicable to a white belt? My coach's think focusing on a specific submission in a roll is a bad idea

Would you recommend getting a dummy to drill techniques with? Is it worth investing in and would it produce high results?
@Chewjitsu2 жыл бұрын
I've done videos on this. I'm generally not a fan of them. Some people really love them. But more often than not over the 20 years of grappling I've seen them collect more dust than anything.

@@Chewjitsu Thanks for the reply. So its more of a subjective thing?
@Chewjitsu2 жыл бұрын
@@User-ts2jj yeah. But it’s also a thing where people don’t realize how much of Bjj is the social interaction. I mean Bjj without the people is kind of boring. And dummies sound like a great idea. But you’ll definitely need some discipline to grind away reps on one. Honestly, I’d rather buy mats and invite a buddy over to drill.

I've run into this problem with my Ezekiel game (gi and no-gi). Literally NO ONE in my gym will go to mount with double underhooks. Not even the black belts. Or they get there, panic, and jump back. As far as calling shots... I did that with my coach at a tournament and the next week got my purple belt.
