Loved the informative structure about conical and flat. Am keen on a Major V because its an 83mm flat burr that's of good value. Suitable for prosumer home or mid-to-high volume cafe. Would there be difference in taste when it comes to size for flat burr or its because of its larger size the heat dissipation is better, therefore better tasting than smaller burrs?
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters3 жыл бұрын
We have used these before and are great. The larger burr allows for less friction and quicker grinder time giving less heat. 👍🏻

Thanks for making this video. You didn't explain how the grind size is adjusted, but I assume it is done by adjusting the distance between the two burrs. Would be good to call this out if you make a follow-up video!

Nice video. Just a quick question. I have washed mythos one burrs in water recently for cleaning. In your experience, Do you think it will damage the burrs and causing those are rusted in the near future ? Thanks
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters3 жыл бұрын
The burrs are titanium so they should be fine. The coffee oil will coat them pretty quickly once you grind with them again. Just make sure they are 100 dry before you pop them back in, you can put them on top of the coffee machine to dry if needed

I dont know what to get. What do u recommend a mazzer robur doser grinder or a helios 64? Still cant deside 😁 but robur doser is more cheaper here.
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters2 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry we won’t know a lot about our Helios 64, but is seems to be a flat burr, the robur is a conical. So for clarity go flat burr, for body go robur

Hi there, thanks for your video Actually, for me I had different experience. I was testing a new coffee and I sent a sample to a friend, when he tested the coffee he contacted me and told me that he found undesired citricy in the coffee, I was surprised because I tested the same coffee on different grinders and it was very nice, I asked him what grinder did you use? he said that he used a manual grinder of course with conical burrs I went home and tried it on my manual grinder and I found the same problem, undesired citricy. the next day I tried to brew the coffee on the same brewing profile on flat burrs and on manual conical burrs and I found out that the citricy is more obvious on the conical burrs
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters3 жыл бұрын
That’s very interesting, what manual grinder are you using?

Can you give some info about titanium vs standard burrs? Like the flavor difference, performance, durability, and whatnot? And what are aftermarket burrs you mention? Sorry I'm new to this burr material topic and appreciate some enlightenment. Thank you
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters4 жыл бұрын
So most after market Burrs are designed to increase the life of the burr set, (from 800kg to 2000kg) could be pre seasoned to help you not waste coffee when putting in a new set, reduce heat by up to 10 degrees, which will effect the flavour profile of the grind and reduce the friction caused by grinding the bean which will reduce clumping essentially giving you a better extraction. How does it taste? if you fixed all the above you would have a more balanced coffee Vs one that has an increased negative acidity/body/bitterness/sweetness. Hope this helps. this could do with a full video one day for sure

I currently have a mazzer jolly elec. 63mm flat burrs and would like to know if I was to buy a major 83mm flat or a 98mm malh. Flat burrs. Would there be a great improvement in taste? I am only brewing V60s and plunger style light roasts single origins. I'm tossing between an upgrade to 83mm, upgrade to 98mm or just an upgrade on my current burrs. What would be my best flavour upgrade? Thank you!
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters3 жыл бұрын
Great question, any larger burr will give a cleaner and crisp taste. So go larger!! Then look to get a titanium if it fits the budget. Smaller burrs take longer to Grindr and then heat the beans up and change their flavour.
@franciscocarballo9413 жыл бұрын

Another brilliant presentation. Love your learning and development design of this vid. Inadvertently, you have caused havoc within our household! My mind cogitated at the speed of sound at the though of upgrading to a $2K PLUS investment in a new grinder. I could taste the quality of a sweet double ristretto shot coating my tongue; tantalising my taste buds. I looked lovingly across at ‘The Boss.’ She glared at me, and with steely resolve, uttered zero words; just that one steely look as she shaped up to me; with one big smack of her mind and my dream was out stone cold; down on the mat for the count of ten! My faithful Kompak K3 Touch Grinder that has faithfully rotated in our coffee nook for the past six years, was here to stay, and linger longer. She was recently renewed with a new set of blades and is sharper than ever. I have a strategy though - what if I create a titanium emulsion and coat the next 20 gms of beans going in the hopper. Imagine what havoc these titanium coated beans will have on my ageing grinder! I know just the place on the mid-coast of New South Wales that might offer me $50 Trade-in on a new grinder. Thanks for all the options Brett. I’m just playing with my CAD softwear now to see if the Mazza Robur or MAHLKOENING EK43 BLACK will fit snugly into my coffee nook!

@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters when I showed ‘The Boss’ your erudite addendum strategy for total destruction of our aged grinder, she played the retaliation card viz. Cutting off supply of specialty coffee and single origin beans from artisan coffee roasters (such as Artisti Coffee Roasters.) In lieu thereof, threatened to only bring back almost out of date pre-ground coffee in 5 kg bags from the local supermarket! Help! Blessed be the peacemakers to resolve our battle conflict.

It's funny how you said the Ek43 it's not for home use but how about the Vta 6S grinder? I'm grinding kilos of coffee every day but is it too much for the home use?
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters4 жыл бұрын
The vta 6s is a commercial grinder, at $6k it’s a big spend for home. Any commercial grinder can be used at home if you can afford it. It will give a great consistency with the 120mm blades

lol it takes about 5 seconds for a modern flat burr grinder to grind a full dose
@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters4 жыл бұрын
Sure does with a big burr set.
@zedorda13373 жыл бұрын
But there has never been a valid blind taste testing that has even hinted to there being any real difference between good quality conical burrs and flat burrs. The reality is flat burrs cost more so people willing to pay it will not say they wasted their money so they claim reasons without proof.
