The forehand throw is a must-have in disc golf today. Gone are the days when you can dominate a field of players with only a strong backhand game! Did James Conrad win the USDGC two years ago, yes, but even he has been working on his forehand game the last few years because even he realizes how important it is to have out on the course! Nonetheless, the forehand throw remains the bane of most player's existence (lol). This simple tip, along with wonderful demonstrate by Paul Ulibarri himself in the USDGC, should help you improve your game tremendously! Putting the focus of your forehand throw on your wrist will pay off in big dividends!
That's all there is to it - just a flick of the wrist! Ahhhhh!

I think this will change it for me as well!!! So excited to practice. Quite a few tournaments coming up for me, it’ll be nice to have something other than a short approach utility forehand.

This is, hands down, the best forehand intro video that I've watched. I've watched numerous videos, since picking up the game a year ago, that focused on footwork and how to grip the disc but none explained that it is "all" in a flick of the wrist!!! I can now throw it further, with MUCH better control and with very little effort. No more shoulder or elbow strain. Thanks so much for clearly demonstrating the most important fundamental. You've changed my game!

Hey, got a question for you :-) In the swingback is your elbow infront of shoulder and wrist behind it before you drive it forward? with your forearms underside pointing upward kinda. Cant figure out if its important to have it locked before the forward swing, Seems like i get less pain when doing so.
@GladiatorDiscGolf
@GladiatorDiscGolf 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! There are two parts to this: 1. Everyone's mechanics will differ slightly because no two people have the same body, so do what's comfortable for you. 2. BUT make sure you following the fundamental principles. I like to set up my throw before I release the disc because it's one less thing to worry about it. This may not be for everyone, but it's what I've found helpful. So, no, you don't have to have it locked before the swing, but if it helps prevent pain, do it!

Hi Antonio, It's been a minute since I have viewed, my lose for sure, of late I have endeavored to improve my sidearm, after a month or so of nothing but forehands off the tee plus approaches, my efforts have developed in to a serviceable/respectable sidearm, after watching your coverage of gaining wrist involvement, I was impressed with the 300' standstill, I can see my serviceable forehand improve both distance and accuracy. Great video as always, keep them rolling, they never disappoint. Gene Senior Disc Golfer

@@GladiatorDiscGolf for sure! I hit a ~40 foot forehand for birdie today! Idk if it's a common problem, but a video helping with backhand hyzer shots and not throwing them up into the stratosphere would be great 😆 I really struggle with that.

Teach! Love having everything explained like I'm a fourth grader, honestly it's what I need. I can't wait to see if this adjustment can help fix my OAT. You clearly don't have this problem but if you ever get a chance to do a video addressing OAT I think there's a lot of people who could benefit.

My "home" disc golf shop has a putting green and recently got a radar gun, and only then did I REALLY sink in why everyone says speed isn't everything. Just needs a smooth flick for a forehand (which I just really started learning a few days ago.

I can side arm about 350+ without really forcing it. My mental queue was to throw like a rock I want to skip on the water to get the flick. I primarily play BH but when I started I only threw FH's because of this mental queue it just felt natural coming off the hand. . Sounds silly but it really enforces the mental queue and movement of a sidearm. You have to throw flat with spin to skip a rock on water and you have to have a clean release. Good luck.

@@GladiatorDiscGolf For short range/touch shots: Trying to use PA-1 and PA-3 Trying to stay away from the A1 and A2 I normally use lol But again, Long distance is no problem for me weirdly 🤷🏻‍♂️ Problem lies with these short up-shots and short tee’s for forehand shots lol I’ve even been experimenting with short range flippy low thrown thumber’s for short shots. Which... kinda works... but the skip is random and not very controllable haha

Gotcha! It’s all about the touch. Getting out to a field with a basket or cones and throwing a bunch of 100-150’ up shots will help you dial it in. It’s all about that repetition.

At the end of the day, all of our bodies are different, so you need to do what is comfortable. The only caveat I would say to that, is to make sure you are throwing with good form. What might feel okay and comfortable now may not feel so good in a few months to a few years if you've been throwing with bad form. I'm not saying you are using bad form. I just want to send that precaution. If you want me to give specific critique and advice, you can send me a clip of you throwing your FH shot on my Instagram!
