This has been around for years, it was originally called something like resolution super sampling, basically it renders at a higher resolution and sizes it back into the screen native resolution, it is a common technique in video game anti-aliasing although an expensive one performance wise

@@hanzofactory The image needs to be rendered at a higher resolution due to the barrel distortion, which is applied to the image to be visible correctly through the lenses. The default render resolution of the Quest 2 is 1440 x 1584 pixels per eye and on Quest 3 it's 1680 x 1760 pixels per eye. This is the per eye resolution most games are optimized for and will run smooth enough. But to match a 1:1 pixel density at the center of the display this size needs to be about x1.7 higher, which is 2856 x 2992 on Quest 3. This is not supersampling, but compensates for the distotion through the lenses. A higher value will be supersampling. Some games already allow to set a higher resolution via the settings, e.g. First Person Tennis or ELEVEN. Other games like Red Matter 2 use dynamic resolution depending on the scene to be rendered. Increasing the resolution (in this case it's default texture size in Sidequest) can increase the sharpness in a game, but this only works if the game does not make use of the full power of the headset already. Otherwise the game will stutter. Usually it's better to set those values via ABD commands in Sidequest, which look like this: adb shell setprop debug.oculus.textureWidth 2016;setprop debug.oculus.textureHeight 2110 and to push the CPÜ and GPU clocks to maximum you can use: setprop debug.oculus.cpuLevel 5;setprop debug.oculus.gpuLevel 5 To monitor all those values i would recommend to install the Meta OVRMetrics tool.

I'm not too sure what you mean but texture resolution is separate from screen resolution. Your screen resolution will add more pixels to what you're seeing, making edges on objects smoother (although anti-aliasing smooths out pixelated edges the most), things less blurry, and makes thing less pixelated from afar. Texture resolutions are pretty much self-explanatory. Textures are like pictures, they usually wrap around 3D objects. The resolution of these textures determine how clear and detailed they look. A good example is something like a grass or stone wall texture, on low res textures the parts of the wall will look pretty blurry and not as detailed. On high res textures, everything will look a lot sharper and you might be able to make out more details such as cracks on the walls. Texture resolution only makes the picture wrapped around 3D objects clearer. Screen resolution makes everything else clearer, including the actual shapes of the objects around you. Hopefully that cleared up somethings instead of confusing you more.

It does not refer to the actual textures used in the apps, but it's the single texture (= full size image) per eye being used to render for the screens. This single texture is rendered at a resolution of 1440 x 1584 pixels if you take the default render resolution of the Quest 2 and then transformed into the actual image for the display. If you set the "debug.oculus.textureWidth [value]" parameters, which is exactly what the values in Sidequest do, you will see this value as the "eye buffer width" in the headset if you are monitoring with OVRMetrics Tool. On the Quest 2 you will need a full render image for both eyes of 5408 x 2736 pixels, which is the maximum possible resolution you can set with Oculus Link to match 1:1 pixel density of the displays and that is not supersampling, but the maximum sharpness you will get. Everything else above these numbers will supersample and have anti aliasing effects.

so I found out something not sure if it only applies to me or not but I recommend touching only the texture size and the ffr or whatever that’s called. I have no idea why whenever I change anything else the games start lagging, for example I tried blade and sorcery nomad with cpu gpu level 4 120 hrz and 3072 texture size it ran horrible but when I tried just 3072 without anything else it ran perfect and the graphics were amazing too
