I'm Taro Iwamoto, a movement coach. I help people go from feeling overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated about not knowing their own body and how they should be moving, to feeling connected with their body, understanding their body so well from the inside and how to move in the best way possible for their own body so that they can move with a sense of ease, comfort, and confidence! If this is you, I believe you will get lots of values from my contents.

Thank you! This is the only routine that I have been able to complete from start to finish! Any others start with the butterfly where you put your feet together and knees apart, I am nowhere near able to do that but I hope Taro’s exercises will get me there!

@@brofe906 remember that this isn’t exercise. :) it’s important imo to disassociate exercise from these techniques because you will find ease more…easily hahah.

Some people online are teaching the sit cross-legged to stand "get up" because of the lack of it is associated with sooner-mortality. they all start out sitting in the same direction as standing. Wait, but Moshe taught it differently. He led us to sit to stand facing the opposite direction. How much easier and more natural. When we go from crossed to parallel, we don't have to fuss our foot positions if we end up facing the other way. I am looking forward to your video on sit to stand. In his workshop at Oasis, Chicago, I didn't know what was the goal of his movement sequence, so I dont remember the preceding sequence that cued the get-up to be easy. Again, looking forward to your teaching especially because I cant even sit "tailor-style" any more. I guess for the kids now it is "criss-cross applesauce". I do remember that he had us sit facing away from our partner, stand, shake hands, and then sit down again. It felt so cool to do that.

my pleasure! Wonderful to hear that! It's a pleasure feeing connected with own body like babies and children. What seems simple and natural is becoming very challenging for us who live in the world where we're being bombarded with overwhelming amount of information coming to us from all over the places. This simple thing is becoming more important than ever, I believe.

I don't think I've ever worked my hip flexors that hard before! In a closed chain way? Really liked the "walking" with my hips. Can feel assymetry with this movement that I can keep working on.
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 2 жыл бұрын
it's a fun way of walking, isn't it? and, asymetry in gait really shows , which is very helpful. it teaches us how we use two hips differently, we use the spine and ribs differently when shifting weight to one side vs the other. lots to observe and learn from these movements

Thanks for the great content! When doing the hip circles, my knees naturally wanted to turn out (bottom of the foot no longer on the floor). Should I try to keep them more still?

it is okay if knees move a little, but keeping knee movements small will direct more movements to your hips.

Can you do these exercises if you suffer from spinal stenosis, at L5-S1?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 2 жыл бұрын
it's difficult to give a yes or no answer just based on a medical diagnosis/label because there's many factors and variability amoung individuals. However, generally speaking, spinal stenosis means a narrowing of nerve root canal and is often aggarvated by extension activities (prolonged standing, lifting, carrying a weight in front, etc). Since this routine is done in sitting (flexion biased), it's generally okay for that condition.

When working my right hip, there is an uneven movement as I straighten my hips. It feels as though I am rolling over a bone that moves from the front to the back. Will this go away with time? My left hip does not do that.
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 2 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure what's causing it, but I do know that two sitbones (left, right) can have slightly different shape, perhaps your left sitbone has more roundness than right?
