I loved the runner on his own, but then you threw in the bus stop, the falling leaves, the running cat, the cobblestones, and suddenly it took on an almost Rockwell whimsy which is amusing and engaging. Context is everything.

Adding the cat and the stone road definitely made the drawing complete. At first, it looked like the model was run on thin air, but adding the other parts gives it motion and context.

I like that you let your artwork take you where it wanted to go. And if that was to add more detail...then YES! I think the best art comes when we "go with the flow" and see where it takes us.😀

I thought 0.1 was always too thick for me so I favored the .05 and only used the .1 for darker areas. But recently I have been using the .1 more and varying the pressure helps to make some interesting lines.

with the background, it feels less static! And it begins to tell a story. See, whenever Im surfing social media, the first thing that draws me to other artists' art/ sketches, is non solitary images. Solitary sketches feel so detached and boring but as soon as i see a page full of interlinked and communicating sketches, I feel so pleased. Anyway, it is also how I do mine so maybe i am a bit biased

I really like the extra elements that provide the context! Sometime ago, I ordered a 0.005 micron fine liner. I didn’t use it for a long time, but now I find it useful, as you have described, for getting lighter shading, fine details and also when working with softer papers where the line tends to expand a bit. Also, you can get really small dots that work well for texture.

You asked for feedback even tho it’s a year ago, I thought I’d add my two pennorth: I very much like the background you added. Adding a story to the figures brings it to life SO much. You are very talented. I’m hoping some of it will rub off on me☺️

I think either way is good. It's good to just do what you feel in the moment. I have some unipin fine liners where there's a 0.03, which is great for starting a sketch. Having said that, I love using an old fountain pen for quick sketches where I have limited control, its really freeing and so satisfying when they turn out well. All the best.

I really love minimalism but the dynamic definitely changed with the extra elements. I think that it would depend on what you’re trying to convey. The negative space was interesting like a body in motion in infinite space, but again It depends. I think they are both outstanding.

The color of the clothes are great because they are balanced. It would be great to see it with a water color. That amount of background details are just enough and not too crowded. The leaves detail makes it look like there are trees around the area.

great point. Im finding not much is really known or shared about fine liners and how to draw with them.. many books dont cover aspects like this also Inking with varying washes of ink is also a bit of a mystery also.. I have been doing alot of research on these things for a year or two.. great point about the different sizes.. I use micron pens so I can get down to .003, .005. and work up as high as 08. nice to see others working a "process".. love your work an your videos.

I like the Micron fineliners and the Copic fineliners myself! 05 and 08 work well for 5in. To 9in. Image's....and allow for a bolder line especially well for a cartoon or anime artwork! I also like switching up sizes on different lines to ad variation and depth to the image😊

Absolutely loved it🤍 watching you draw makes me excited go out and practice for myself too. I love the characters you have with your lines, every stroke seems to be drawn with confidence, like you already see the drawing in the paper even when it was still blank, and you're just tracing along the image you already have in your head. Thank you for providing all these contents! Question from me: how do you feel about real-life urban sketching, as in going out and drawing on the spot out in public? I like doing it but I still find myself unconsciously rushing and getting nervous, or just not drawing fast enough to catch the moment I want. Would be interesting to hear your experience!
@SketchingScottie

Glad this has motivated you to get into sketching! I love the idea of urban sketching. I know what you mean, I'm just starting out sketching outside and yea I definitely felt I was rushing and my hand wasn't as steady as usual. I also have to get used to sitting or standing without a desk. But it was also great to be outside and capturing people in natural poses. I found that if I sat in an area with lots of benches I could find someone sitting to sketch long enough before they left haha. I'll share a video soon about my experience urban sketching too.

My favorite fineliner has to be the LePen 0.03 size. It's unreasonably thin - and that's why I love it. It's reasonable for me and the details I like to etch in. I've never actually considered this sketching though, since mygoal was to be a traditional illustrator - and we haven't been huge....proponents of color usage if you catch my drift

Sketching well still looks like magic when it works out. Everyone bangs on about getting the “art fundamentals” right to make sure a sketch really looks good and works. I think the wash is fine here and doesn’t take away from the overall effectiveness. Can you say what the fundamentals are for this sketch that make it work so well? I guess scale/persoective and shadows/highlights and leaving enough out of the detail to allow the mind to fill in the blanks. What else? These videos are great I find and I can really take away a lot from them. I also notice you stop and check them keep going without lifting your pen, I guess the pen and the paper factor into why stopping doesn’t bleed into the paper?

Incredible line work! Maybe when adding more elements, then raise the contrast of line weights to draw focus, or more contrasting values with shadows to give more depth. The elements all work very well together, but hold the same or similar light values.

Running man is great, cat is great, leaves are great and middle wash line is good. Floor distracts the eye and takes away from the very good details on the main subjects. Some speed lines on the floor would've worked better I think, if you're adamant on having a floor plane. Either way, good stuff!
