I totally agree with Chris 338 ; Stop blaming yourself. Actually I own over a dozen or so .22 rimfires, from a humble/old Marlin 995, thru 4-5 great rugers all the way up to an Anschutz 54 Custom sporter. Each and everyone is a different animal, and has it's own personality/preferences. Particularly, the Anschutz, (which is also marked "Made in West Germany"), has a factory double set trigger and it's my most competition-used bolt rimfire. It prefers NOT to have it's bore brushed/cleaned for at least 500-800 rds. Also, one of my newer CZ 452 behaves closely. Most of my .22 rimfire rifles must group at least 3/4" inch @ 50 meters or less. The Anschutz & CZ's are basically "one holers" shooting RWS/ Lapua /Eley/ Federal match ammo. I think you needed to "season" the barrel then clean, that is my suspect on my R.A.R. anyway. Its new and I get groups like you did at first. Now I just need to break in the new barrel.

I used to shoot 22 benchrest at 50 at my gun club before I moved nobody cleaned their guns ....you are not an idiot your gun just prefers to be clean

I have the same rifle. Your just over thinking it. Mu group's started the same as yours. But after around 50 rounds the group's started closing up and now all of my group's are under 1". Don't clean it till this happens. I don't clean my 22s till around 250-300 fired. Its a learning process not a quiting process. My ruger likes cci standard. Good luck.

That was an easy fix.. I'd run some patches with lead remover down the barrel as well.

I will still try the tape between the stock and the barrel on my RAR. I have struggled to get my groups tightened up. And Ruger was not any help during the warranty period. They wouldn't accept my return for service because the accuracy was within their tolerance. Well it wasn't within mine. It's getting there.

My cz 457 shoot best dirty. I’ll clean when accuracy goes away. About 275-300 shots. Maybe your rifle just wants to be clean.

Same with ALL my CZ`s. When the accuracy starts falling away, i know its time to clean them.

Back in the mid to late 70 ruger put out some good guns and now they just put out lots of guns and they won't shoot the truth is quantity not quality as is the same thing with for instance some of the other companies like savage it is hard to find us quality anymore and that's a fact and also a shame that you have to go outside the good old usa to get a good rifle this is just my opinion enough said shoot well and have a good day. You're being a bit too hard on yourself saying you're an idiot.....you're not. You just might not have longer-term experience with 22 rifles shooting for score. You might want to add the distance....the range....at which these groups are shot. Pretty important info to evaluate. OK...somewhere in the middle of the vid and stated very quickly..... 50 yds. Something is going on for a new gun...almost target grade...to get 1.5"-2" groups or more at 50 yds. Pretty much any 22 groups under an inch at 50 yds. As for cleaning..... what's more important than cleaning the barrel......is cleaning the CARBON RING at the end of the chamber just before the bullet sees the first aspects of barrel rifling.....getting this carbon ring out will almost ALWAYS result in better groups. I'll bet "cleaning your barrel" did this without you knowing you also cleaned the carbon ring..... c'mon back into the 22 world !!! .....the water is fine !!!! ........
