I originally put a 997 shifter on my ‘99 996 and it felt a little bit better. But then I saw a video from “Homebuilt by Jeff” installing the Function-First kit on his 996. I decided to give it a try and what a difference. I highly recommend this upgrade 👍👍 Just remember to wear safety glasses when you’re cutting off the tabs!

Had Shift Right installed in 99 996.1 cable throttle car and had knob changed to Black Forest . Very solid. Kept standard cables. My stock setup seemed fine but this is better

How do you think this option compares to the 997.2 GT3 shifter and the numeric racing shifter? I think this question is a necessary one to answer for anyone looking to upgrade their shifter on their 996. I am weighing all 3 of these options, and it seems that most in the community are ending up most satisfied with the numeric racing shifter.

Better than the OEM shifter. The Numeric is somewhat similar (throws are a tad shorter). I'd say the Numeric is probably the best overall solution and most popular with the Function First a close (and less expensive) alternative.

@@Flat6Motorsports Thanks very much for sharing your input. This is an interesting mod, as I think lots of folks are interested in it but it’s hard to pull the trigger on changing from oem without first getting the opportunity to feel the various shifter options firsthand.
