Another tip: people like talking about themselves A LOT, so make sure you don't talk about yourself too much, they honestly don't care. Talk about yourself only when it's interesting enough or that person is genuinely interested in your conversation. Also, be genuinely interested in what they are talking about and ask small questions here and there. It's a great way to open up conversations and keep it going. I hate asking questions because now it just drags on and on and on lol. Sometimes it sucks when no one genuinely ask about your life whether it's interesting or not, people are sometimes so self centered and they forgot about the other person's interests or conversation. - Dale Carnegie, "How to Win Friends And Influence People".

Dear Improvement pill, thank you for teaching me a lot of this video. You made me see the idea of the friendship as a tree. The solid trunk of it will be the main information that we are seeking from people and then after our comment and additional questions, the tree will grow branches and the deeper the conversation becomes, the stronger roots it will grow in the hearts of the ones, leading it. I understood so much about and it made me realize that there is hope, as I am a loner or someone who is struggling finding friends and leading conversations. The thing that interests me is how to prevent the people from only talking about themselves? I am following the rule: Share and let be shared with you, but usually when I try to lead a conversation, the people are starting to talk only about themselves and even if I try to say something about me, they're like: Oh, that's cool. I was saying... Blah, blah and there it goes, error 404, connection not found. They are not interested, even if I have something interesting to share. Thak you very much, I really enjoy your videos, they way you are doing them and you're voice. :)

If you think you can't do this on the moment, then my advice is first write these in a notebook and apply them in an online conversation. Don't stress out too much, just look when you need to or once in a while. You'll be much comfortable, and it'll be easy to learn them. And after doing that for a while, you can use these a lot easier in actual situations.

Using Statements Instead of Questions: This is a nuanced approach that can change the dynamics of a conversation. However, it's crucial to be aware of the risk of sounding presumptuous or overbearing when making cold read statements or opinion statements. Questions, on the other hand, open up a space for the other person to express their thoughts and feelings, fostering a more balanced dialogue.

Is it just me or do o have this fear of being rejected...? Not like relationship type of thing. Here's an example: "You look like you come from a big family." You said a person could branch off into many topics from these types of questions. What if the person replied with "Um... okay I guess..?" that would make the whole conversation flip
@LyonFujoshiTrishula8 жыл бұрын
Leen the Queen You're not alone in feeling this way. But I think that if a person responds that way, then to me, it would seem that they just aren't interested in conversation at that point of time. In such a case, I find that it's best to politely excuse yourself and leave them alone. Sometimes, the other person would have reacted that way because they were caught off guard and will realize that and will try to restart the conversation. But if they don't, then they're probably not in the frame of mind for a conversation.
@TheRumpelstinskin8 жыл бұрын
You need to develop effective strategies to cope with rejection, in the case it present itself. This way you'll reduce the fear of being rejected, because you'll know that, whatever happens, you can deal with the situation. If you make a comment and the other person reply with something like that, you need to be able to identify if the person isn't interested (based on his/her body language and facial expressions) or if you just took him by surprise. In the first case you excuse yourself and leave, in the second case there are a number of strategies you can use to keep the conversation going (the video covers many of them but there are more), like humor (if you're skilled enough), telling a story about something related to the context where you are, plumbing (making random comments 'till something "hits"), acknowledging the awkwardness of the situation and commenting on it, etc, etc, etc.

And she said, "Wait a minute, I have to think" He said, "That's fine, may I please buy you a drink?" One drink turned into three, or four And they left and got into his car And they drove away some place real far "Now, babe, the time has come How'd ya like to have a little fun?" And she said, "If we could only please be on our way I would not run".... that's when things got out of control.. She didn't want to He had his way She said, "Let's Go" He said, "No Way! Come on, babe, it's your lucky day Shut your mouth, we're gonna do it my way Come on, baby, don't be afraid If it wasn't for date rape, I'd never get laid"

This is really good information. Grammar is important too when speaking. Some of your statements say "me and my friends" but instead should read "my friends and I." I will be using this in my leadership class with 9th graders but will tell them that using the correct grammar is also very important when speaking.
@ineffable0ne8 жыл бұрын
Depends upon the person with whom you're communicating; some people find grammar nazis annoying. The English language is a beautiful, constantly evolving, horrible mess, with yesterday's slang often becoming today's common parlance... so, as I see it, as long as you're understood, everything's gravy. Correct grammar can obviously help in this endeavor, but only if your audience is familiar with the rules.

I used to talk like this and people didn't seem to like it. I changed that to interview mode for the argument of "people like to talk about themselves (not listen to you talk)" and because I tend to overshare. People still don't like me.

This video is really insightful as before now I used to find it difficult to communicate with people I am meeting for the first time I learnt from the video to stop using ehnnn, uhmmm during my conversations. I also learnt to not bombard people with questions, I am really guilty of that 😢. I should rather make statements that will encourage others to flow with the conversation.

Thanks for this valuable contribution. I've certainly learned some great ways to improve in conversation, an area I'm not so confident in. More of these videos would be helpful for sure. Thanks again. ☺️

As a non-English speaker I found it so useful and informative, specially when working. Thanks for your information.

I'm one of the most abrupt people you will come into contact with. Wish I had the social skills to elaborate. We'll see how things work out, because I have mental illnesses this disrupts the thought process and makes it hard to have a conversation. Hope to learn to one day overcome this.

Dude this was awesome thank you so much for doing this. As an introvert all of the stuff you talked about didn't come naturally to me. It was hard to learn and felt forced but the way you put it was easy to understand and really helpful! I've never been good at storytelling! if you could make that one hour next project I would totally appreciate it! thanks again(:
