Also, something that my teacher told me that helped a lot, was to step out with one foot, and join with another. The foot that you step out with stays the same throughout the travel, with the other foot not stepping out, but joining. You don't step out with both feet (or at least, that's what I was told). I'm not sure if I explained that well, but the way that my teacher put it helped a lot. Thanks for the video! :)

Are there any tips you have for traveling farther across the floor, specifically in pointe shoes? I've always been able to travel easily on flat, but I struggle to travel even half as far en pointe, mainly in turning sequences. Any advice?

What happens if I am doing a chaine away from the audience? Whenever I try to (because it is part of a dance I'm doing. I have to do chaines in a circle ) I choose a spot in the direction I'm going, but never smoothly land facing the crowd. On the other hand, if I spot in the audience, I can't go in the right direction. How do I fix that?

@juliecassidy73535 ай бұрын
Toes alternately move in an upward motion with heels magnetized together. Then lead with the elbow of the arm in the direction you’re turning in. Open and close the lead arm and use it to control speed and rythym. Another thing we did was to progress from the one two keeping the spot with the feet alternating to doing the same but stopping in between a complete turn to extend one pointed leg with a pause. Damn I hated dance classes for a long time. Always sick feeling and never perfect. I got there though about the time I was legally an adult at 18 yoa Also don’t clench your jaw. Make sure you have a nice relaxed face .

At what time should I commit to pointe shoes? I danced for 8 years when I was little but had to stop because of an auto-immune disorder. I'm seventeen now, and I've been out of dance for as long as I was in it, but I still stretch and practice in my room. I want to take ballet in college next year, but when do I buy pointe shoes?

I also heard for those who can't keep it tight and small (myself)that they should tie their legs at the knees. Does that really work?

pirouette question:: when someone says to engage your core, does that mean that I have to clench it? and any tips on pirouettes cuz I keep following and I've watched different videos already :((
@BethanyLouiese8 жыл бұрын
To me, engaging your core is like flexing your abs by pushing your belly button back to your spine
@dancingformysavior39718 жыл бұрын
Stand up, cough, and then hold up feeling in your ab and rib cage area. That is how you engage your abs and close your rib cage for any turn or balance.
@dancingformysavior39718 жыл бұрын
+Dancing For My Savior * hold that feeling... You obviously don't cough every time you turn her balance but that's a feeling you should have. Hope this helped!

Hi Kathryn! I discovered your videos on KZbin when I recently started training in ballet. I have never done a ballet class before and next year I will audition to enter a musical theatre program in a college. Among other things, I will have to do three ballet exercises: Chaine, jete and port de bras. Do you have any advice for me to improve? Sorry for my bad english!

Anyone has tips on getting the front leg higher in firebirds/ring leaps? I have no trouble getting my back leg high, but my front leg is almost vertical.
@amandanance9198 жыл бұрын
Try focusing more on kicking your front leg higher. Your back leg might not be quite as high but that's because it's compensating for the higher front leg. I like standing in my kitchen between two opposite counters and using them to help push off of and practice getting my front leg higher

Does anyone know a secret to slow down your chains on point? When i am in my flat, soft ballet shoes i dont have the problem but i get way too fast when i do them on pointe.
@dancingformysavior39718 жыл бұрын
I have always had that problem too, I think it's something you just learn with time. Also, think of engaging your abs closing your rib cage, turning going upwards (like a spiral) and maintain your spot. Try to figure out what you're doing with your legs and correct that. Hope this helps!
@dancingformysavior39718 жыл бұрын
+Dancing For My Savior going fast OK it just has to be controlled.
@jamielaw47498 жыл бұрын
Also, keep in mind the closer your arms are to you, the faster. So if you want to slow down, move your arms farther away.
@vanseliz248 жыл бұрын
You turn faster on pointe because the surface area of the shoe is smaller than on demi pointe. The trick is to try using less force when you're on pointe (which is sometimes hard because your muscle memory is used to a certain amount). Even if you start doing them super slow at first just to get the feel of it.
