That's pretty much how my spring worked back in Indiana. The concrete pool was built right against where the spring came out of the rock. From there it was piped in an insulated 3" metal pipe to a 1000 gal reservoir buried all but 2' made out of a 6' dia culvert with a concrete bottom. We used a submersible jet pump to pump the water underground to the house. Yeah we had to cover the tank and the spring head to keep the varmints out. FYI, we did get crawdads in the tank but didn't worry about them, the old timers said that was how you knew the water was good.😊 The pipe from the spring pool to the tank was metal so if it froze we could pull off the insulation and use a flame to thaw it out... only did that once in 10 years.

To keep the critters out I would put a cone filter onthe exit pipe a lagoon liner in the bottom and fill in with a semi course aggregate that way the stone helps filter the water of any leaves and such and keeps the animals out

If you've been drinking raccoon soup and you haven't died yet, guaranteed you ain't gonna die in the next week from poisoning of anything else. But it is always great to test your water and make sure the BPAs aren't leaching into your water if you're not using a food grade storage tank. I would trust that you know what you're doing because your family is a might healthy and your animals are still going strong. Great work, family and it's always a blessing to see you all harnessing the gifts provided by God. Bless you all and to our KZbin friends weathering these crazy, unprecedented storms. May God bring you peace in these times set out to divide and conquer by the enemy. Keep your eyes turned to God. Texas is still praying for you all. Israel and all the innocent people thrust into war against their will, too. ❤

We use big black water tanks for Ice fishing shacks lol Maybe even deer blinds Lots of people use poly tanks to store water up here in Canada .. lots of rural places in city water .. so they have storage if the pressure goes down .. I don’t see any of them dropping from plastic. Most new homes are plumbed with plastic potable waterlines .. so plastic poisoning is total nonsense. I’d be more scared of the sun lol

That game camera showed exactly what I feared was out there at night with the racoons having a party in it. Nasty little boogers. Good news is all the ones with rabies are supposed to be scared of water. Still might wanna keep an eye on them boys for if they start biting each other. That little one already looks like he wants to get aggressive with the cardboard tube 🤣 This looks like a good fix for it. A lot better than the open pond was even if it needs a little work in the future to get it just how you want it. I'd rather drink the microplastic than the racoon and possum poo to be honest. Plastic tank ain't any different from a plastic pipe really. A concrete tank is fine but they say concrete can have heavy metals and stuff in it too so i guess it's a matter of picking your poison. Concrete can spring a leak or fall apart after so many years just like plastic can go bad from the sun. I just added us a second tank for a total of 800 gallon capacity and stuck it in the remains of my grandpa's old concrete cistern that was falling apart. I expect the plastic will probably last longer than the concrete did with a tarp over top of it. I bet yours will too especially after protecting it from the sun as good as you did.

I don’t understand why you don’t put a curved plastic dam just in front of where it comes out. Fill with washed stone/gravel. Cover with plastic and then backfill dirt over top of it. Then your water never sees the light of day or the pee of raccoons.
@McGieHomesteadAdventures
@McGieHomesteadAdventures 3 сағат бұрын
Several reasons. If I put it up close to the spring, it’ll cause the spring to re-route, and I’ll lose my water source.
@jwoo1800
@jwoo1800 2 сағат бұрын
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures it’s definitely a balancing act but as long you let it flow sufficiently it shouldn’t back pressure. Make certain there’s overflow routes etc that keep it moving in the right direction. Your concrete dam is really not much different. Water is like electricity. It goes path of least resistance. That’s why it keeps trying to creep around the edges. A bulkhead into a spring box with appropriate flow rate COULD solve all those problems. Don’t get me wrong. Love the work you and the family are doing. Found your channel due to your spring house videos. AWESOME. I only brought it up as I was always taught that your drinking spring should never see daylight. Just too much danger for contamination.

@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I did and for its purpose that will probably be amazing. I was being less literal with the “light of day” comment. More along the line of never letting your water be above ground unless it’s in a pipe. Basically never exposed.
