I just want to say thank you for being human, and for admitting there are times when you are feeling burnout, or really needing to dial things back so that you don't go back to being burnt out. One thing I admire most about the hermits is that you are very real in your approach, and that you remind us at times that taking time to rest, reflect or recharge is important. I have caught all of your videos lately still think your Rome inspired build was my favourite build in that series, and guess the build videos are a guaranteed fun view and laughs because they are just so unique and some of the end results are priceless. Thanks for all that you do, and wishing you the best as you dive back in to season 10!

Yeah, sometimes you just need to take a deep breath, swallow your pride and say "this is too much" to yourself. I've been writing a novel for the past year and a half, and while I feel like I'm about halfway done writing it, the first year's worth had a lot more momentum than I still have at present. It was like getting a rocket start in Mario Kart only to be struck by the spiny shell at the start of the final lap. Some advice that I can give if you're trying to preemptively avoid burnout is to avoid setting deadlines for big projects.

What's important to remember, especially for someone like me, is that alot of these guys are old enough to be my dad. I'm only 22, and I get burnt out from doing what I love, and then I remember that these guys have been doing it for half of my lifetime... I can't even imagine...

@3Zleda yes and no. Before the start of the season they have meetings on what their goals are for the season. Like season 8 was their season for testing out new mods and gameplay. Every season they hang out of course, and even more so after they implemented the Voice Chat Mod in season 8 I think, but their actual goal for season 10 is community and playing in a relaxed setting with no pressure on big projects. Of course everyone is free to make their projects as big as they want, but there was no pressure put on this season for that, but instead they wanted to emphasise their friendships this season.

It's really cool to see hermits, who would typically focus more on the "work" aspect of their content, turn to having more time spent around friends and messing around. Everybody's already saying it, but I'm gonna add my 2 cents anyways: the main reason I watch your channel is not for the builds/games/redstone/whatever on its own, but for *you* as a creator. Your ideas and creations are inspiring, but more than that, the way you push yourself to improve in every area motivates me to follow suit. We don't want you to get burned out, but if what you're fired up for right now is putting your all into the cyberpunk city, hell yea! Do it! It's amazing to see such a passionate person create something that excels in so many areas: beautiful builds, intricate redstone, fun games, things to challenge your skills, not to mention the lore and storytelling of the place (something I think makes any build 1000x cooler). It's a heck of a creative endeavor that encompasses all aspects of Minecraft, and it'll be phenomenal and entertaining to watch so long as your heart is in it. That said, if your motivation ebbs again, don't be afraid to take time off! We also love the ridiculous content that comes from goofing off with the other members, and having a laugh is always worthwhile, even if you have "more important" things to do, not to mention the fact that feeling happy boosts productivity exponentially on its own. That, and the content off-server is wildly entertaining. Guess the build is always hilarious, but the castle defense thing was mind-blowing to me--not just because of the build itself (I actually had to do a double take looking at the thumbnail because iLympus looked so professional and gorgeous, I didn't comprehend that it was *your* build and not one of those old Minecraft tutorial worlds) but also because of the creativity of the mini games inside. I particularly loved the sand puzzle, but that's beside the point. Point is, enjoy yourself! The city is just a city at the end of the day--albeit a fantastic, beautiful city deserving of all the praise in the world--the truly impressive thing is what it represents: your dedication and improvement over the years, something I strive to emulate. Keep being you, keep breaking limits and wowing us all with how far you've come, and we'll keep watching whatever you make

Can’t speak for anyone else but I don’t really care about deadlines or goals. The only thing I want to see in every HermitCraft episode from any Hermit are two things: social activities with hermits, and progress on a build or base. I think it’s a winning formula for episodes. So I don’t care what exactly you work on, as long as you contribute something to it once per episode.
@exodus17592 ай бұрын
Storylines are also a great substitute for either. I’ve seen some hermits build something as part of a storyline (police HQ, court house, etc) or participate in a storyline activity as their socialization

Listened to your Hermitcraft 10 episode on the Imp & Skizz podcast on my way home from work yesterday. I'm not currently on Reddit at all, but I'm thinking of joining so I can just post on the Hermitcraft subreddit that "Hermitcraft Season 10 is NOT dead!" so you can see that when you go check it. We are all human and sometimes fall short of the goals we set, but it's not the falling short that defines a person, but rather how we respond that counts, and I super admire your honesty and moxie in this regard. I'm actually continually impressed by the amount of activities you all seem to be doing all of the time, but especially appreciate your attitude through it all. You're always so encouraging to those around you, so I'll try and do my part to encourage you: your builds this season are FANTASTIC so do not fret about getting all of the little details just right in the first round. Make a build and move on to the next! You can always come back when you have the city completed with Bdubs to fine tune those details. One of the things i've loved so far about this season is everyone just having fun. If you wanna take breaks on massive projects so you don't burn yourself out: GO FOR IT. It would be better to see you doing what you want, going back and forth on projects or just even plain out goofing off over seeing you get tired of doing the same thing and just giving up. How I look at it, jobs typically aren't fun, but when you have a job that is fun, you want to keep it fun. In a job making videos, if you aren't having fun, your viewers will notice. You don't need to feel pressured to meet certain goals or stick to one thing because chances are, most of us are here for you and who you are, not what you're working on. Seeing these projects are just a bonus. I would happily watch you do random things and having fun then seeing you force yourself to do something for our benefit.

I know this has probably been said a bit already, but I wanted to add. It's okay to admit your burned out of something. Burn out can hit anything even something fun or you love doing if you push yourself too hard, I had a similar thing happen to me earlier this month. One of the hobbies I do is I'm a Dungeons & Dragons Game Master for a group of friends, and most of the time I absolutely love doing it, but I ended up pushing myself to hard and completely burned out. I couldn't focus, lacked determination to work on anything, and my players could tell (we're currently taking a break from the game to help with this). I admire you for being willing to admit that you burned out, and are trying to take steps to avoid having it happen again. Even if you haven't made the progress you've felt you should, I've enjoyed the shenanigans you've gotten up to with the other hermits along the way. Thanks for all you do, and best of luck as you go forward.

Wouldn’t wind charges from behind be more beneficial than a hinderance? I imagine it will launch them forward. It might be worth having them coming from both ends, one side helps them - but fires less regularly, and the other side pushes them back, firing more regularly. By having them so it fires from a random dispenser, it will make it so it is less easy to predict/learn the patterns. That being said to save wind charges, you would likely have to make a system when it only triggers after someone reaches a certain point and have it on a timer before it turns off. A tripwire may be a good way of doing it so multiple people can set it off in one run through - but it could also allow them to dodge it entirely - possibly saving them time, but also slowing them down without beneficial wind charges. Doing it that way can also make it more random as if one person dodges it and is at the front, someone at the back could trigger it, taking the person in front by surprise. No matter what you do, I am sure it will be a great game! Keep up the great work!

I think it would be really cool if you left some of the water above the sewer. That way you would keep the water particles dripping in, adding to the vibe. Maybe even some stalactites on the ceiling to signify that it has been abandoned and eroding for a while. I am a big fan of the cyberpunk/dystopian aesthetic, and can't wait to see more!

Two comments: 1) Good job on self care. I struggle with that myself and it's helpful to see others intentionally doing it. 2) Where the turtle lair is: what came to mind for me was to not wall the tunnel off (wouldn't make sense thematically) but instead to "assume" it still makes that turn, but has caved in. You can use tuff (unpolished) and some stone variants to make it seem like the tunnel caved in and give the player a reason to go around that makes sense in cannon.

the metaphor you used on the podcast about painting a picture for us really touched my heart so much. it made me super excited for upcoming content, I could feel the fire coming off of you in that moment, can't wait to see what comes next!

Impulse, your skill continues to improve every video and I think the extra projects actually help you with that. I respect your care for viewers, but it's ok to care for yourself too. Speaking as a therapist who always pushes myself too hard, sometimes those we serve take better care of us than we do ourselves. 💜 Completely different note, on the detour thru turtle headquarters, it might be cool to put some cracks, iron bars or even tinted glass to see thru to the course but also make it clearly blocked off?

7:30 -- Don't ever apologize for being burned out. Almost everyone who does what they love as a full time job feels this way, occasionally, especially in high-creativity jobs. Being creative is HARD. Being creative all the time is next to impossible. Take time for yourself and just decompress.
@kushj95682 ай бұрын
An Idea for the Sewers: The Sewer pipe going straight into the TMNT hideout looks a bit odd. You could add a right/left turn in the pipe right before the hideout, and a few blocks in have it collapsed/blocked off. This would make a lot more sense architecturally as the hideout would then be in the walls, and not just at the end of a pipe. + it might trip up some less vigilant hermits and let the ones in the back catch up **Additionally** I think it could be kinda cool if the hermits have to run against the fan and have the wind charges shooting at them, instead of the wind coming from the back

Try not to put so much pressure on yourself, take your time. I don’t know if I speak for everyone but i watch your videos for your personality and shenanigans and not because all your builds and gameplay are perfect. We’re all human, we all experience burnout. Take care of yourself first and worry about everything else second, keep up the good work and have fun!!
@Slackbot2 ай бұрын
Don't worry about not completing your builds on schedule. I'm here for the ride; I like seeing things develop at their own pace, and I don't want you to burn out because you feel you have to work faster. Have fun!
@marting91122 ай бұрын
Thank you Impulse, for the explanation, although it wasn't necessary. The first step to getting over the inevitable burnout, is admitting to yourself that you're burned out. Everyone gets burned out at things at some point, so it's good to take a break and do other things, and find a way to reignite that spark of inspiration. I did watch Guess the Build and the castle invasion videos of you all and it was fun to watch. Also, congratulations on making it to second place at MCC, that was no easy feat. It really could have gone either way for the Yellow Yaks and the Red Rabbits. It was such an amazing finale. I watched MCC from Gem's perspective and also watched the vlog and the Hermitcraft panel video, and it was so nice to see the Hermitcraft family come together from all over the world and hangout in San Diego. I'm glad to see you back on Hermitcraft and can't wait to see your project(s) further develop. The Ninja Turtle hideout looks awesome!

For the entrance to the hideout. Maybe the tunnel is still on the right, but just collapsed so you have to go through the hideout and dojo to get back to the tunnels.

13:48 Hii I used to do karate for like 8 years! I am completely blanking on the names of things but The pillar thing rotates and is used for practicing blocks! The three main targets, the block from getting attacked in the face the also called Jodan, the block is called the rising block. the middle one for blocking attacks to the stomach this area is called Chudan, the main block is called the inside out block and the below the belt block from getting attacked below the waist this area is called Gedan, the main block is called lower level block. It rotates with the momentum and force you but into your blocks! Karate is a defence sport 99% of the time so yeah! Love the dojo! One thing you could add is the Japanese flag because in every karate dojo they have the Japanese flag and then the flag of the country you are in! Edit: also if anyone is curious or the words are different from what yall know I did shotokan karate and idk if things are called different things in different styles :) have a good day!

I appreciate you slowing building and placing blocks while giving us an update. Especially the bit where you bopped your head on the ceiling when building up, because I do that! Overall it just reminded me how much time big builds really take while making it feel more attainable at the same time, if that makes sense.

I understand that you got a burn out at the end of last season, and you shouldn't be ashamed of it! Yes you're doing an amazing job, living from your passion and having fun while working, but don't forget that it's a full time job! Some people may not understand it, but smart people would understand if you had to take a break as Mumbo or Iskal did in the past! So don't hesitate to complain sometimes, you're a human and humans are not invincible, humans need to rest sometimes!

I listened to the podcast episode, and my heart went out to you Impulse, because I've loved your content and will continue to love your content, whether you finish your projects or not! The journey is what I love seeing, not just the end result, especially when you and the other Hermits are having so much fun together! That said, I also heard in the podcast episode how much it would mean to you to get the cyberpunk city finished, so I am cheering for you to get to a level of done that's acceptable to you! I love what you've made so far, I'm excited to see where you take, and I hope you're able to manage the pendulum well enough to avoid burnout. Most importantly, that's better for you, but I think it's important to remember that it's better for your content too! Being in a good mental place makes you much more creative and the enjoyment you clearly take from your job in those circumstances comes through in the videos you make too. I will add again (pretty sure I commented on the original video) that your castle was incredible, it was my favorite build of the whole group, especially when considering how you learned new tools to do it! Keep up the good work!

I like the slower pace of building - insane to say given how much y'all have built in 8 months. Progress is satisfying, but if i just wanted to watch build progress, I'd watch an epic Minecraft timelapse video. I watch Hermitcraft because y'all build amazing stuff, yes, but even more because y'all seem to sincerely enjoy hanging out and making things together. Loving season 10 so far.

As a fan and subscriber, I don't want you to think of me as a toxic boss forcing you to work to burnout so you can provide me with amusement! I really appreciate all the work you put in alongside having family and life stuff going on. In addition it's not like you've been radio silent, we've been spoiled with Guess the Build, the I-lympus build and the podcast from TwitchCon plus loads of streams!

Impulse! Don't be so hard on yourself! STAHP IT! For one, we're enjoying all the things you're doing, which is a lot. Secondly, sure I'm excited to see the city built, and glad you're reaching out for help with it, which you should. And lastly, which is a little swee t& salty, the hilarious nature of saying "I need to prevent myself from burn out" to "I'M GOING TO BUILD A CITY!" makes me laugh a bit, but glad you're reinvigorated and are pushing on. Ask for help and help others! Honestly I am loving all the engagement with each other this season, and I feel like I can see the more connected nature from hermit to hermit. It's awesome! Does mean "sidequest distractions" happen, but that's part of the fun of the game when in such an amazing multiplayer community like HermitCraft. 😊

Something Mumbo did with his town build this season was use wool to build out empty cuboids where all the buildings were going to go, which feels like it might be a good idea for the Cyberpunk City. Aside from just allowing you to plan and visualise how everything will fit together, it will also break up all that empty space which seems like it must be quite intimidating to look at when you're thinking about how much you have left to do on the project.
@Skirakzalus2 ай бұрын
Burnout can often be a career ender, you don't simply recover from it and get back to how things were before. So it's a really good thing of you to take care of yourself and take a step back when you feel it approaching instead of trying to push through, because in the end you'd just be pushing yourself into a wall until you walk around with its brick pattern on your face. There's so many stories about creators burning out and what you're doing is the best way to not become one of them. Loving your job is no replacement for a work/life balance.

I absolutely love Raphael's sai! It looks really good, and was a really clever way to make it, doubly so since that in particular was the main reason Cleo didn't bother with any of the other weapons. She's still the best, but it's a great reminder of how fantastic it is that other hermits are trying their hands with armor stands, bringing new ideas and new perspectives to improve the entire craft!

I think the theme of Season 10 is "Take it slow." Every hermit I've watched has been focusing more on doing things one at a time and it's honestly really nice to watch because it's more content on what they're doing and less of an overview.
