Also, about his turnovers, he's currently 11th in usage rate. Which, yeah, you gotta carry a lot of weight as the first option, but teams are zeroing in on him. Coupled that with, as you said, a pretty bad whistle repellant, and it's no wonder that it's 4.4 TOs per game. I'm hoping that Ivey would grow into the shot creator Cade needs when he has to share the burden on offense. No matter how smart and crafty someone is, a double team is still a double team. I think Ivey is gonna be his first mate on that regard, more than Ausar or Duren.

I actually see his finishing this year as a step forward. The percentage is down but the types of shots he's taking are going to work better long term. Last year it was very amateur looking. He attacked head on which was never going to work at a high level. The angles he's creating now, in 3-4 years those shots will go in at a higher rate. His touch is too good. He just needs reps. Especially because I think he's gonna get stronger in his core and not just use bumps, but actually shed defenders. How Jayson Tatum added 12 pounds of muscle before last year at 25 and became a much more physical finisher, I think Cade is on a similar trajectory. And that will also lead to more FT.

Saying he is the “light skin Luka” implies that Luka has a darker skin tone. All of that is just pointless. What does the tone of his skin have to do with anything? When did this “light skinned” thing become something that folks feel the need to interject into conversations? As if by being light skinned it makes a player somehow less of a player and when they rise above this shortcoming it is something abnormal. It’s all strange as hell.

@mambaASI14 күн бұрын
I think its kinda 2 fold. 1 is that he is not getting enough calls on shots at the basket especially from his drives. Its improved from last season, but refs still aren't treating this dude like an elite number 1 so he doesn't get the calls like the stars do. 2 is that because he doesn't get the calls, he's kinda forcing bad angles on some of the rim shots cuz he knows any contact probably won't get called in his favor. So he tries to avoid contact on the shot. Its forced him to become more creative with finishing attempts but its still inefficient.

@lokofra935413 күн бұрын
I think the most impressive thing about the pistons is that they've been a legit good defensive team this year while touting maybe like 3 clear positive defenders (cade, stew, ausar). Two of which are current negatives on offense (i think stew should start and be utilized more as a spacer in a 5 out offense which would further boost cade's game, a lot of the rim finishing you pointed out with the second defender is often due to one of duren or stew being camped in the paint when stew doesn't need to be there). I don't know the stats but it's been clear all season before Ausar was cleared to play, which is a testament to JB's coaching that he can build a legit defense while starting the worst defender in the league (Duren). For Cade and the pistons to take another leap, I think it hinges on benching and ultimately replacing Duren. He's the team's biggest problem right now and his lack of spacing pretty much offsets any offensive potential he has (which I think is legitimate but doesn't matter if he can't space the floor or defend as a big). I also don't even think Cade is that good of a defender, he's got great hands and is really good on one on situations but he also leaves open shooters and makes errors more than I'd like to see. Last year's pistons and this year's pistons should be prime examples on why coaching is so important in the NBA. The difference between Monty and JB is clear as day and night and I think are two teams who should be studied by anyone to understand coaching better. Cade's making a legit case for being the best guard in the east and the vision with the pistons is clear but again I think it all hinges on what happens with Duren. I was extremely high on Duren even up to last year, he has legit skill on offense, has been one of the better rebounders in the league and has a real ability to push the ball up the floor and play that jokic/draymond role albeit on a lower level. He showed pretty impressive defensive indicators as an 18 year old rookie and I was super high on him, but his defense has completely regressed due to abysmal effort and IQ on that end. For comparison, Isaiah Stewart has quietly turned into one of the best defenders in the league as an undersized big with subpar foot speed. But he's always had great IQ and motor, and has improved so to become that this year. Duren has had ankle issues since that rookie year that may have offset some of his athleticism, but he's just bad. Every other pistons prospect has worked hard to improve on that end, ron holland is honestly just kind of bad but it doesn't matter because his hustle and work ethic is great. Sasser won't ever be more than a fun bench spark plug and he has shown serious effort, Ivey was one of the worst defenders in the league and he has still improved. What Detroit does with Jalen Duren is the biggest swing factor for me this year, he doesn't have stew to hide behind anymore. Great video as always, I think this might be the answer to Cade's biggest flaws right now and overall the answer to what the pistons real ceiling is as a longtime pistons fan. Keep up the great work! Edit: Wemby would've solved all these issues lol him and cade were made for each other. fuck adam silver

Tatum is actually a ridiculously good finisher but anytime he misses it's like a normal player missing 10 times because he's Jayson Tatum and he's over scrutinized. Like dude is at 81% at the rim this year. But when he was younger, yeah, JT had some finishing issues to work through. (Plus some bad playoff series even last year.) But I completely agree with the comparison. I think Cade will similarly add 10-15 pounds of muscle and increase his FT rate in his mid-20s like Tatum

Everybody has been sleeping on the piston right now. From the worst league last season to cracking the .500 winning percentage this season. That is a huge leap. I remember Kyle Kuzma mocking these Pistons team the previous year. Cade is a good young leader. Doesn't force anything. Has a high basketball IQ. He can take over the game whenever he wants because of his size and skills advantage at the point guard position. Doesn't take silly shots. He let the game come to him. And that's rare to see from these young leaders nowadays. Unlike ANT's" DON'T DO OVERTIME EDWARDS."

@HoopVenue10 күн бұрын
I'd say that's backwards. The lack of whistle stems from a lot of the finishing problems. He lacks craft on the floor (no euros, no use of slow steps), and lacks the burst to create intentional foul scenarios. He definitely doesn't have a favorable whistle, but refs aren't deliberately not giving him calls.
