Elgin came insanely close to winning a ring. In his final season, nine games in, he was told that he wasn’t the player he used to be and was asked if he would be ok coming from the bench rather than starting, he retired on the spot. That same season the Lakers win the championship and Elgin is asked if he would like a ring for his contributions to the first nine games however he ultimately rejected the offer since he didn’t think he’d done enough to deserve it. Kind of crazy just how close he came to it but ultimately chose not to have a ring when he was asked.
@Pennybags372 күн бұрын
I'd say it's probably a bit taboo to admit this since their star players reputations have been tarnished by so much off the court baggage but the 90's Jazz were probably one of my favorite teams to watch during that time. Their offense was ahead of its time with a lot of off-ball movement, cutting, and steady diet of pick and roll between Malone and Stockton. They played very unselfishly, always willing to make the extra pass and were generally successful in putting a lot of pressure on the rim which allowed their perimeter shooters like Stockton and Hornacek to get open. Jerry Sloan obviously ran a very tight ship since his team could run his offense like clockwork almost to a fault, it was likely this lack of flexibility that might've ultimately hurt this team a lot in the playoffs. But when it worked it really worked, and it was quite the beauty to watch.
@Jonathan-A.C.Күн бұрын

As a Suns fan, Nash should have won a ring in 2007. I respect the Spurs immensely, but they played so dirty that series. Nash had his nose broken in GAME 1 and missed the end of a close game. Amare and Nash were still in the zone. Then Horry checked Nash into the scorer’s table, and Amare and Diaw got suspended for a crucial game because of that. Spurs would beat Utah 4-1 and then go on to sweep Bron and the Cavs. I won’t say we were “robbed”, but I definitely think the series should have and would have gone differently. Oh, and who was referee in that pivotal game 3 in SA? Tim Donaghy, who went to jail for fixing games.

It's tough reading basketball reference page sometimes but it appears that John Stockton did make the playoffs every year of his career. There are a lot of four and five game first round losses at the beginning and near the end of his career. He is probably now the most underrated NBA player of all time. He also had a pretty big reputation for being a dirty player but that was what the NBA was like when he was in it.

He lost 2017 to the Rockets, which was understandable enough. He lost 2018 to the Jazz, which sucked (he had PG then too). He lost 2019 to the Blazers, which to some degree was Carmelo’s fault, but also he just didn’t play too great. Then he joined the Rockets and they lost to the Lakers in the WCSF, then he left to the Wizards and they lost in 6 to the Sixers, then the Lakers and they missed the Playoffs, and then 2 first round exits on the Clippers (played well against the Suns in 2023, and played piss poor against the Mavs in 2024). He does not have great Playoff success at all outside of his time with KD, who he ironically only lost to once in his best series in 2023, although this year might be a change

@Jonathan-A.C.Күн бұрын
@ That’s just some bullshit. Yeah the league changes and different things are prioritized, but even then, teams stuck with old greats in order to try to win for as long as basketball has been a sport. You don’t think Ewing in the late 90’s was an old player? Or Hakeem in the late 90’s? Bird by the time he was washed? All these players were in similar positions. No different than today’s league. And your point about Europeans is nonsense, too. Even though they’ve won MVP’s and 2 rings in the last few seasons, it doesn’t mean that is dominated the entire league, and it certainly doesn’t mean they don’t get contracts. Where are you when Luka doesn’t play great defense and whines about calls all day long? Where are you when Giannis is actively pushing his team to find help lest he leave for greener pastures? Where will you be when Jokic, probably Giannis, and possibly Luka are getting these massive contracts while they hit their mid 30’s?
@TheMasterpiecePDКүн бұрын
@Jonathan-A.C. No one played until their late 30s and got max contracts, except for the all time top 20ers maybe but they also didn't play 20 seasons, stop rewriting history. Jordan would've annihilated the Rockets guards but the Bulls literally never had a good big man so Hakeem would have absolutely feasted as well. Rockets usually beat them in the regular season from '91-'93 as well so it definitely would've been a challenge. We might have seen some of the craziest finals performances of all time if they matched up. Not that Jordan and Hakeem don't already have some of the greatest of all time, but more is always good

Nash did in 2005 I believe, and so did Dirk in 2007, if I’m remembering correctly. Lemme check. Nash was by far 50/40/90 on 2006 (close several other times, including Playoffs), and Dirk was in 2007 (like Nash, he was close other seasons). Steph was also 50/40/90 for 2016, which was the greatest scoring Regular Season ever. Nash did make it 4 more times, just not for MVP years. Bird made it twice in 87 and 88. Nobody else won it that close to when they won an MVP, and some players never won MVP to begin with who made it. But surprisingly, 5 out of the 9 players who made the club won MVP’s and 4/5 won FMVP, and 10 of the 14 selections were from players who at one point did win MVP. So it’s surprisingly connected to MVP winning, and overall dominance

So, first time watching. Your argument as to why you have Iverson in the top 20 of ALL-TIME. I think just because you never seen Robertson or West play, but you know that they were part of historical franchises AND were high scorers AND had iconic performances. I mean, West is the logo. West has the only Finals MVP on a losing team. Robertson, who had a triple double for an entire season, had won a ring(71 Bucks). You said you're only 35. 2024-25 season is the 79th year of the NBA. I know that if I watched Seven Samurai from 1954, I wasn't born yet. But I can acknowledge the movie as innovative. As a cinematic masterpiece. I have never seen it. I have never seen Wilt play in his prime.. except here on YT. But, I sure know of his accomplishments. Idk at Steph is hands down the best point guard to ever play that position. Cause I know of Magic's accolades.. I know they had better competition back in the 1980s (excuse late 1900s) Anyway, you can also mention, and why didn't you when you talked about Ewing, that AI was on several teams AFTER his prime years in Philly. He had to play earlier in his career some God awful teams. Sixers were the laughing stock in 96-97. So yes, after getting Stackhouse, then swapping out Big dog Glen Robinson, and later Chris Webber... Iverson finally had some playoff contending teams, and made it to the Finals in 01. I won't put him higher than 32 on the all time list.
