NBA media coverage is the worst in sports imo. Instead of acknowledging the 3x MVP all time performance they went and and just discredited Rudy Gobert's defense smh
@SiwanBouss
@SiwanBouss 21 күн бұрын
That's so stupid too. Like, what do you want Gobert to do that he isn't already doing? He's forcing Jokic to work really hard to only take nearly impossible shots but they all end up going in. Can't blame the defense when the one with the ball just doesn't miss anything even if he's shooting without looking at the basket at the end of the clock over a 7 footer.

Their explanation for the losing player/team is only bc they suck, not bc the other player/team is good. Then they discredit the winning player/team bc “everyone they beat sucked” so now it’s unimpressive. They only tear down because they can’t break the game down and it’s weird they still have the power

Oh I agree. Defending an NBA player one-on-one is very tough, almost impossible, especially if the offensive players are elite. No one is stopping Joker one-on-one. I'm not sure anyone in history can stop him. All Gobert can do is try to take away something and wait for help.

Lots to comment on here. One thing that's interesting about Jokic is I feel like he just shoots enough 3s to make defenders believe that he will, but what he really wants to do is pump fake and drive because it makes the defense work, puts them in rotation, allows them to make mistakes. The 3 is mathematically a good shot for him, but it also does not put pressure on the defense to execute. I think about this a lot when thinking about the difference between the Nuggets offense and the Celtics...

After last season's run through the playoffs it was apparent that no coach or team had an answer for Jokic. Each team tried everything they could to disrupt him. He is the most inevitable player since MJ. His game and poise are maddeningly consistent for his haters. They can't understand how he doesn't get rattled, how he can't be sped up. It's simply amazing to see. Great channel.

The thing I’ve noticed watching jokic is the most impressive thing isn’t just his touch or his passing ability which are elite of course. But it’s actually something else that doesn’t get talked about a lot, it’s his reaction time. It’s the way he reacts to things, if you watch him play he isn’t even really thinking to hard he’s more so reacting to what the defense is doing, but he’s doing it so insanely quick. For example, he’ll give an eye fake to see what the defense is going to do, then in that split second as he’s in the air if he sees that defender move back he’ll continue the floater and score it. But if he stays tight he’ll turn it into either a lob or a pass to the dunkers spot. The way you gotta play him is different than you’d have to play someone else, you basically got to stay tight on him and react to how he plays you can’t really think or plan for him because he just plays by how you play him which is strange to think about. If you double him he’ll give you 20 points and 15 assists. If you let him score it’ll be 40 and 10. You basically gotta play him reactionary and even then he’ll still give you 20.

I spoke with some former elite players in different sports here in Serbia who used to play against all time greats in their competitions. They all agree that what separates most of the top dogs from any other player is that "the time is passing slower for them than for everybody else". They say that what they experience is like they are all in regular speed while these special players are on fast forward mode. They attribute it to the reaction speed both in thinking and executing. Now, when you watch it on television it doesn't show because it is a very tiny speed difference but in real time it is almost unfair advantage because that split second makes all the difference in the world. With Joker, who is adding to that advantage his physical strength, spectacular IQ and one of the softest touches we have ever seen, it elevates to a level where there is almost nothing you can do if he does his things right. And he does it right almost all the time, because in his basketball vision the whole point is to make the most efficient play that is available. That is why he seems so selfless, he would execute himself only if he doesn't have better option in court at that particular moment. At the end, to make things even crazier, his ergonomic style of play makes him available all the time because his meticulous calculation of usage of physicality and stamina makes him play long minutes at the same rhythm while keeping him away from most of the injuries that are coming from physical strain and overuse. Nuggets really hit the spot with their franchise player, and they got it from the 41 position on draft. Go figure.

This is because most of the time, before getting the ball, he already observes his surroundings and decides what to do. When he gets the ball, everything he does looks very fast. In the Gobert post up situation for instance, you may or may not decide to bring help. Whatever you choose, Jokic has a counter before you do something and you look helpless.

Jokic is the culmination of the history of Basketball's training and skills, combined with once in a generation (or more) touch and vision, in the body of a 6'10", 285 lb center. And despite his outward personality, the guy is a competitor. I used to think that Lebron was the perfect basketball design. Defense, Offense, and Passing. But Jokic can post like Kareem, shoot like Dirk, create like Magic, rebound like Moses, with the Coachability and Leadership of Tim Duncan. Even not being a star on defense, he might be the best basketball design now. (And IF Wemby can reach this level, with his defense, then that might be the perfect basketball player.)

Regarding your point on Harden and Luka, they're among a few very special players who can get a bucket pretty much whenever they want (and their teammates in their case). However, they'll rarely set the screen, draw attention to help their teammates, or draw up plays where they don't touch the ball. Once they're out of the play, that's it, they think "My job is done". Jokic never thinks that way. He looks at the game with the aim of maximizing his team's chances of winning every time. If that means getting a bucket, playmaking, setting a screen, drawing attention without the ball, or whatever, he'll do it. He looks for the right play for his team, EVERY TIME.

he's not just an offensive GOAT, his defense is elite as well. only 13 players have led the league in DBPM multiple times; of those only 6 have done it 3x: Marcus Camby (DPOY), David Robinson (DPOY), Nate McMillian (2x all-def), Mark Eaton (DPOY, all-time leader in blocks per game), Sam Lacey (played prior to DPOY award) ...and Jokic. if he does it again next year he'll be the only player to do it 4x (stat has only been kept since '74, otherwise Russell would likely have the most). he's also been top 10 in defensive win shares each of the last 4 seasons, including 2nd place twice.

I love the cat and mouse of Joker waiting patiently for the double team; then they fake, he doesn't bite, waits again for the total commitment, then spins or passes the ball off-every single possession at the elbow or post. There's no defense for this, and the perfect reason for Joker's greatness is this: he's figured ball out; it's elegant but a simple game. So it comes easy to him, and he's affected his teammates with the same understanding. Now you have a team in sync playing simply but effectively. Simple stuff, why make it complicated?

Good video. Was truly awe-inspiring how dominant he looked last game. But also have to say Aaron Gordon is a rare talent for them as an ultra-elite supporting/role player. When Malone unlocked Nuggets' guards by having Gordon play point it was a huge success - but wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well with almost all other bigs. Gordon has great combo of strength, size,and athleticism where he moves really well even keeping his dribble super low to the ground. Physically he's more in the **general mold** of Lebron (chill, King fans - of course he's nowhere near the skill level..I just mean his build and general athleticism ONLY lol)

You know we haven't seen anyone be able to Garner that much attention when he has the ball in his hands since Michael Jordan. An argument can also be made for Stephen Curry just because of his ability to hit the three and space the floor. The curry but curry is not a 7-ft guy in the post either which makes joker even more dangerous in that respect. The fact that he can also hit the three not as consistently as Stephen Curry, but pretty damn consistent gives him threats that MJ didn't have. Now MJ was about a 33% shooter from three so he was no liability either but it wasn't a part of the game back when he played. So between his IQ, his ability to use his body, his passing and all the other things that you mentioned. He literally is the most dangerous person in the NBA today. If he can keep this up, continue improving through his prime and exit the league with the dignity that he's shown up to this point. I don't see any reason why he won't be in the top 10. Maybe even the top five depending on how much he wins. But no matter which way you cut the pie, he's one of the greatest to ever do it. And he's the best man in the league right now

11x champ , 5x mvp …if they had defensive accolades back then …bill russel would’ve won more than anyone .

I can't compare two eras like that! But if I have a team I'll pick Jokic because he's by far the most versatile offensive player ever. I may sacrifice something on defense but I'll take him anyway.

According to Draymond, Gobert just did everything wrong. Annoyed hearing him act is if anyone can stop this version of Jokic.
