honestly dont know if I would have as much fun with VCV rack without your videos, every time I want to learn a module I search the name on youtube and look for Omri - thanks buddy

Small note to Foundry users: as of version 0.6.17, the main SEQ/SONG switch behaves like that of the PhraseSeq series of sequencers, thus there may be slight differences with what is shown in this video. The expansion panel was also updated so that in SEQ mode, we can externally control the playing of the sequences. Have fun! Thanks again Omri for this tutorial :-)

I have tried to use Foundry and the Phrase sequencers here and there but wasn't quite getting everything. This helped a lot and I have a real good understanding now. What a great sequencer, it does so much. Thanks for the great tutorial, I will be coming back to this one for reference.

Very useful indeed- even though applying this to exactly the same module in miRack is a rather frustrating experience owing to the lack of control interface options. Basically there’s the pencil/finger, and... er, that’s it. Still, I’ve got a cool 16-step sequence out of it after just ten minutes of this tutorial, so thank you! And as that’s the second time I’ve found a tutorial of yours useful, that’s a sub...

Hey Omri, super nice video! But at 21:58, after step 4 in my song or sequence, the yellow dot goes back to the beginning, but there is a green one that will do the whole 32 steps, thus messing the chords...The B and C tracks, after 4 steps (which is the length of sequence 1) become C and are stuck in that note for the rest of the steps. When it goes back to the beginning it works normally, but again only for 4 steps...
@TheKikitito6 жыл бұрын
OK, got it! Answering myself. I needed to set the sequence limit of 4 steps for each track!

Can you combine the gate probability with the tied note function, so that when a note isn't played the prior note gets tied?

Thanks for the tutorial Omri. Is it possible to set the gate length via CV or set it from the external controller?
@OmriCohen-Music6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Paul! The gate length depends on what you feed in the clock input so if you're using an external controller, you'll have to make the changes there.
@paulpiko6 жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music Hope you are getting better. So to write a step into Foudnry that has the gate off (in other words, don't play anything on that step), you would need no signal to go into the clock input? Does that make sense? I don't know if I'm explaining it very well.
@OmriCohen-Music6 жыл бұрын
ok, now I understand. You can add a gate off trigger for each step by using the gate input in the extension. You can also do it manually of course, by clicking the gate button. Be sure to check out the tie function if you're looking for adding sustained notes.

Does anyone know how to submit a feature request? For the select mode, rather than having "4, 8 and end" I'd love it if the process was: 1) Press select, 2) Select the first note in the selection, 3) Select the last note in the selection. This would remove the arbitrary 4, 8, or end selection lengths, and requires the same number of mouse clicks

@@TyQuinn I really like the idea, the only thing is that the switch is also used to determine the length of copy-pasting for portions of the song, which does not reside in the 32 steps at the top right. So do you think it would be ok to remove the switch any ways, and make it such that to determine the length of the segment of the song we want to copy, we do it like this: 1) move the start phrase, 2) press copy, the song phrase display would now flash continually, 3) we move to the end phrase with the knob, 4) hit copy again, and this has now copied the part of the song we want. Pasting is not a problem, it just pastes what is stored. Seem reasonable? When we know what the flashing would mean, it would be intuitive, but for someone that doesn't know what the flashing means, it might make copy-pasting song content confusing.
@TyQuinn6 жыл бұрын
@@marcboule I think that sounds really sensible. But I guess it would definitely require people to read the manual, but it should seem really logical/intuitive after that

There's something missing in the procedure for connecting the BSPro for me. I got wired up with the CV, Gate, Vel & CV2 to track A and got a sequence written to Foundry from my Seq1 keypad. But when I run the BSPro only the first 16 step of the sequence seem to play out, i.e., the 16 steps of the default length sequence on BSPro. The last 16 steps light up in Foundry, but those notes are lost. Is it possible somehow BSPro overwrote the second 16 with its first 16 on the first run attempt? (Also a nit: I substituted an FM-OP for the Cosmic because I couldn't figure out how you'd wired it up, both to Foundry and... beyond. Not a well documented Oscillator in my experience.) Thanks for any tips.
@edwardnixon17826 жыл бұрын
I think it's working for me now. There are a lot of moving parts and maybe they can get discombobulated a bit, especially if there's a bit of learning curve churn.
@OmriCohen-Music6 жыл бұрын
Hi Edward, sorry for not answering sooner, but I'm still recovering from a nasty flu... You have to make sure that you've got no sequence programmed on the BSPro, otherwise, it will overwrite the notes on Foundry. If you don't want to delete the sequence, then before hitting play, remove the cable from the WRITE function, so the sequence on Foundry will not be overwritten. (be aware that maybe you have no sequence programmed on the BSPro, but the random function is active, so it will still output values) About Cosmic, it's an oscillator worth learning and I go through it at the beginning of the Foundry live stream I made - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpDbi6arhaqMbJo I hope it helps, please let me know! Cheers!

I didn't get a chance to watch the video yet, but perhaps it may be because the version in the plugin manager has not been updated yet and Omri has a newer Foundry. If you like, you can download the latest build here: github.com/MarcBoule/ImpromptuModular/releases/tag/0.6.13b

@@marcboule I have a update version. But im think i missed something watching this video. I try to recreated this part of tutorial two times with the same resoult. :(
@marcboule6 жыл бұрын
@@Ghalebor I think it's because Omri had previously set up the sequences in each track (where the lengths of each track were set to 4), but it didn't appear in the video. If you see light green run heads moving past step 4, it could be that you didn't set the length to 4 for all tracks. If you click ALL, and then set length to 4, this will be done across all tracks, and then it should play properly.

@@OmriCohen-Music Okay Omri, I sorted it out by making a really simple patch. Actually, it gave me an idea (to try later) that if you used a noise osc, you could make a very interesting drum machine with those variable gates. You'd get a nice triplet feel for high hats, or snares (as an example). Anyhow, thanks again - oh, by the way, I still have to get to the end of this video. I'm always having so much fun I often get sidetracked building my own patch after watching just a few minutes of some of your example.
