+Randall Dubin The GTO's didn't race at Miami in 1988 due to the organiser's feeling they didn't get enough of a return for the$75,000 purse (which I'm presuming the organiser's put up themselves) had in return for the race taking place. The GTU purse was put up by Chevrolet who were debuting their new Beretta in the GTU class at the Miami event.

Kal Showket's IMSA Daytonas were built almost identical to the cars of Joe Varde (both were sponsored by Direct Connection). Both Showket and Varde used the 2.2 liter fwd driveline setup in their Daytonas - and had incredible success with them.Showket's original 1984 Daytona (not the one seen in this race) is still around today (I wanted to buy it, but had nowhere to keep it) and had the original 2.2L engine still in place.

The Miami GP was like the super bowl of racing for us in DOminican Republic. Does anyone have the 89 race?

I'm pretty sure the 300zx that finished 8th (burger king/Z-shop of miami) was sold to someone in Dominican Republic in 1990.

5:13 for the start 1. Weren't the Beretta's a GTO car? 2. Funny seeing all the names I'm used to since I've only been following for about 20 years 3. Miami is sure experienced with hosting racing 4. It goes by the freeway? 5. Such unprofessional commentary back then 6. This is only an hour long?

Vintage racing. Car on fire in the middle of the frontstretch but who needs safety car? They'd red flag this joint in 2023, lol
