I LOVE THIS!! Although I think Eric would be a Hufflepuff! I see him as a Cedric Diggory type character. Brave, and fiercely loyal to his friends (Ariel).

I honestly think Ursula is a Ravenclaw. Not only because I'm playing her and I'm a Ravenclaw, but because she's so clever and so smart. She knew precisely that Triton is sensitive about her late wife's voice that Ariel inherited and she took that to her advantage by taking it from her.

I always saw Eric as a Hufflepuff, he is loyal and was up to fight for Ariel as soon as he realized what was happening much like the Puffs did on the final battle. I feel like a Gryffindor would have kissed the girl. While a Puff would stop and then get dumped in the water.

On the subject of villains and Slytherin. I kind of feel like Gaston needs to be in Gryffindor. He's not particularly ambitious. Yeah he wants to marry Belle and fixates on it, but we have no evidence of him scheming in relation to any other subjects. He is also shown to go blundering into things head first, like Beast Slaying without any real knowledge of what's going on except that he thinks it's bad. In fact a lot of your arguments for Ariel being a Gryffindor rather than a Slytherin can be directly applied to him too (never thought I'd see those two having something in common.)

I agree that Gaston would be a Gryffindor and would also put forth that the beast would be a Slytherin. In many ways Gaston and the Beast are similar. That difference though is what differentiates Gryffindors from Slytherins though and both of their capacities to be seen in a negative light. The beast was a snobby kid who got taught a lesson - like Draco. Also, Ariel is such a Hufflepuff. Her entire existence is the room of requirement. It's probably her magical incarnation xD

I think Ariel is a Slytherin. She has 1 main goal and she sticks to it, even if it means giving up her voice and family. She is willing to risk everything to get what she wants and is also kinda sneaky by going behind her father's back very often.

Not all Slytherins are evil. We have many other qualities other than "evil." I like this idea for a series but I can just see that all the "villains" will be Slytherin (because they are evil or bad) and all the other characters will be in one of the other three "good" houses

+Courtney Collier Well, Slytherins are ambitious, and I can't think of a villain that isn't (though I'm sure there are some). They are generally not humble, so they aren't Hufflepuff. They are also usually not brave. They really only fight when they think they can win. So really villains can only be in either Slytherin or Ravenclaw. However, I'd say the ambitions of the villains are stronger than the intelligence of most villains.

I'm a proud Slytherin because I still think that being ambitious, charismatic and cunning are positive traits. People paint Slytherins in a negative light out of jealousy honestly (kidding). I think the other houses can be just as mischievous and conniving in their own ways.

Ursulla would actually sort into Gryffindor. Yes she's ambitious and calculating but she's also reckless, overly confident, and cocky - negative traits of a Gryffindor. She's also only ambitious when an opportunity presents itself. Slytherins actively work to make their amibtions are reality while Gryffindors (as stated by Rowling) tend to accept opportunities as they come. I mean, King Titen and Ursulla are suppose to be relatives - mythologically - and the King has been in power for a while and Ursulla has done nothing since her banishment long ago....so ~ clearly not an active type of ambition.

I think an argument could be made for Ursula to be Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin. She's ambitious, yes, but not impulsive. She always has a plan, like Sebastian, and she's clever and persuasive.

I think Ariel is Slytherin. One of the descriptions of Slytherin is that they are ambitious and will get what they want by any means necessary. Even if that means putting their friends in danger, disobeying their father, and making a deal with the sea witch. Ariel is Slytherin.

Couldn't agree more with this. I've always thought Ariel and Eric were Gryffindors. I think another reason for Ariel is that she risks her soul and gives up her voice for a chance at true love - pretty brave to me. Also Eric literally climbed back onto a burning ship to save his dog.

I would put Ariel in Hufflepuff, because she never struck me as having a huge amount of drive; she wants something, but I feel like she just reaches out for it blindly. She lacks that drive that I associate with Gryffindors. Ursula was probably right... Honestly, I don't really think that my comment was in the right frame of mind. As a Slytherin, I get annoyed when I see House stereotyping (whether it's as ram land as I think or not) and I think I overreacted here. I apologize.

+PhoenixTales No, I haven't seen the second or third movies, so I'm not taking those into consideration. I do honestly think that Ursula is a Soytherin, but what I don't see enough of is the idea of different types of the members of each House. For example, Snape is almost the best a Slytherin can be (aside from the pathological assholery) whereas Ursula is the worst of Slytherin. I would love to see this kind of a spectrum idea applied to the other Houses (for example, Triton is a pretty bad end of the Hufflepuffs)

I do try not to house stereotype. I think the issue is that most Disney villains fall into slytherin bc they are the bad type and Disney just doesn't put that many good slytherin types in their movies. Altho tbh I'd probably put Scar into Ravenclaw and I think Zazu would be Slytherin. Just trying to think of some off the top of my head. I like your reasoning for Ariel being in Hufflepuff - I just don't see her as being very loyal because she's willing to leave her entire family without a goodbye. Like PhoenixTales said, she's very headstrong and doesn't think much before she acts, which I think is very gryffindor.

I love this sooo much Sarah, what an awesome idea! I think Flounder is a Hufflepuff though. I think its his loyalty to Ariel that makes him act brave, he is not inherently brave himself. I also think Sebastian would be a Hufflepuff, because despite the fact that he comes up with all of these (legit) reasons why what Ariel is doing is a bad idea, like you would expect a Ravenclaw to do, instead of taking the logical course of actions and telling her father he decides to take the far riskier route of helping Ariel which shows that he is more loyal than logical.

Ariel is 100% in Slytherin imo. Is there anything more ambitious than wanting so badly to transcend your own species? Plus, she had to gamble to get there, she literally made a deal with the "devil" to achieve her goals. Doesn't get much more Slytherin than that! :) Yes, she also has Gryffindor qualities which isn't surprising as Gryffindor and Slytherin are two sides of the same coin, but I think her ambition throughout the movie is what drives all of her actions.

I always thought of Ariel as a Ravenclaw. She has the love of learning and trying new things that Ravenclaws typically have. Her collection is proof of that, and the way she wanted to try every experience she could get while she was on the land. It's true she's not a planner, but I think her love of learning outweighs her recklessness.

Ariel is totally a Slytherin to me. She is so ambitious when it comes to wanting to be human. Not to mention, she goes behind her father's back to sell her voice to Ursula (which is cunning), and manages to (somewhat) communicate with Eric without a voice (which is resourceful). If she were a Gryffindor, she would've come clean with her father about what she wanted and how she was going to get it. Not to mention, nothing she does is out of chivalry or nobility; she is brave for selfish reasons.

I think that Ursala should have been in Ravenclaw mostly because of her method of bringing Airel down. She thought of the idea to take Ariels voice to then use it as her own to get the guy and may I add she thought of that in a second. That strategy was a very clever one and she obvious planned it out in her head

Ursula should be a Ravenclaw. She managed to sort out a plan to rise to the throne without even doing anything illegal. On top of that, she easily plays Ariel's feelings. So, strategical and psychological; Two traits that imply a higher intellect. She also has a boatload of sass, which is pretty much the same as wit.

I think Eric is a Hufflepuff. Mostly because he lacks the selfish streak that is sometimes present in the more "aggressive" houses. He sets up a homeless chick he found on the beach (with communication problems no less), said 'thanks but no thanks' to the Princess of Glowerevan (and possibly others) and was instantly loyal and sympathetic. Also, he just kinda went with things no matter how strange they would be. Like taking in a homeless mute, marrying a girl he just met, finding out the former is a mermaid and ramming a giant octopus woman with the bow of his ship. Which tells me he's not into being judgey.
