That scene with Mr. Parker really made me cry showing that Solomon recognizes him and he recognizes Solomon just brought me to tears at the same time. I felt that Mr. Parker was gonna beat the shit out of Mr. Ipps for what he had done to saw them but of course he’s here to get him and technically there’s nothing they could do for Patsy and sadly to this day they’re still debates going on about what happened to her. i’m not sure if maybe Mr. Epps fall through to his wife’s plan on getting rid of her by killing her or that she was rescued by the union no one is for sure especially during the era.

I've heard that right when the Civil War began, the Union Members came upon the Epps Plantation and Pasty got rescued by them. After that, the Epps became bankrupt and suffered Yellow Disease terribly and died from it. The Epps got what they deserved though sometimes I believe the Epps should have endured a life full of immense suffering as a severe punishment for abusing Patsy, Solomon, and the others.

@@deboraholcot4630 I read an article by a writer for Vanity Fair trying to trace her whereabouts. It is very difficult to find records for people of color. The writer surmises that she may have taken on the last name of her master Epps, as most Slaves did after they were freed, and the last record of a Patsy Epps was recorded in the town of Washington, Mississippi at the age of 70 years in the 1900s census. This same writer believes she was born around 1830 (so if was freed in 1865, she would have been around 30 to 35 years it is possible she could have gone to bear children?? if she was healthy enough. Her body may have been damaged too much so i doubt very much.) Mr Epps died in 1867, just a couple of years after the end of the Civil War. His wife died soon after. The Epps Plantation was located near present day Bunkie, Louisiana. It would have been good if Solomon could have rescued Patsy. They had a neighboring town to the Epps Plantation that was on the Underground Railroad but I suspect as Solomon eluded to, was that with the constant beating, her spirit was completely broken. Very tragic!

@@Marguerite21 You do realize that what Epps did to Patsy one of our greatest founding fathers did to his slaves, right? Thomas Jefferson even had children with his slaves. It's why I get a big laugh whenever the Supreme Court chooses to read the Constitution exactly how it is written. It clearly states "All mem are created equal." When it definitely should have said "All white men are created equal." Today we see "men" as meaning every man woman and child born in you being naturalized by our great nation. However that is not reading it how it was written. It was written to mean white men and white men alone. I am not sure why an argument to change the 2nd ammendment to get rid of assault weapons hasn't been brought based on the changing of the meaning of "men" by the original framers. If the meaning of a single word can bring about drastic change the meaning of the word "arms" can and should change as well. I have no doubt enlightened progressives like our founding fathers would look upon the weapons of death any American can purchase on any single day in horror.

Wonder how George Washington treated his slaves
@jfournerat1274
@jfournerat1274 Жыл бұрын
Well in his youth he was like almost all enslavers in that he had no qualms with beating African Americans who were enslaved and also had no qualms with separating families from each other so he wasn’t much better than almost all enslavers. It is true that during the American revolution he gradually came to see that slavery was contrary to the revolutionary ideals that he was fighting for. He then tried to free those that his wife enslaved but because they weren’t enslaved by him and were controlled by the estate of Martha’s family and former in-laws he wasn’t able to free them meaning that once he died then the families of those who were enslaved would be separated from each other and unlike in his youth he came to oppose seperating families from each other which is why he didn’t free them immediately. Unlike almost all founding fathers who enslaved people even those who hated slavery George Washington wrote in his will that after his death all of the people that he enslaved would gain their freedom albeit only after his wife’s death but out of fear of being killed which was unjustified she gave them their freedom a year early. It is theorized that Washington wanted the Custis family to free the people that they enslaved to keep families together. Tragically after her death the Custis family did not free the people that they enslaved and divided them between Martha’s grandchildren which resulted in the separation of many families from each other. Although it is true that George Washington did later in his life ultimately have a change of heart and ultimately chose to do the right thing by freeing all of the people that he enslaved it still doesn’t justify him enslaving innocent people and having no qualms with brutally mistreating them such as beating them or separating them from their families.

This story is Based on a true event. Meaning its not 100% accurate in any way. It could have been much worse than this or it could have been better than this. People embellish to sell more books and leave out details that will get a book banned or a movie to be deemed unmakable. The point is there is no one alive today that can tell you 100% how it was. Its all stories passed down and anyone who has ever played the game "telephone" will know that stories change every time they are told.
