If and when utilizing the correct terminology. It's impossible for an "Asteroid" to ever come in contact with the Earth's surface. An "Asteroid" entering the Earth atmosphere, becomes a "METEOR", should such "METEOR" contact the surface of the Earth; It becomes a "METEORITE".
