After seeing the trailer for this movie, I was excited! It promised to be intense, suspenseful, and a nail-biting new experience in horror, all from the killer's perspective. But... Did In a Violent Nature live up to my expectations? Find out in this weeks 2 minute movie review on the new IFC/Shudder movie.

I thought they did a good job capturing that whole talk show vibe but yeah if you aren't feeling the talk show then it wouldn't be interesting. I am really interested in seeing Longlegs. That looks really strange. And it's Nick Cage so you know it's going to be weird and out there.

I’m one of the yays. I thought it would be a chore to get through but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I liked the cinematography, the pacing and the kills. The victims made dumb decisions but that’s formula in every slasher flick.

After listening to your critique I’m rather concerned as to how you’d change the yoga scene. You seem to think the lack of reaction from the victim was bad…I just took it as shock. I’m sure if life didn’t cease almost 2-3 seconds after part one you’d get the horrible sounds of human pain you seem to think improve the scene. It is sad how many people can’t seem to get over the walking…as if that makes up the majority of the film. Reality is that there is never more than 3-5 minutes MAX of walking before something happens. The acting was bad…especially the ranger. I’d like to think it was sort of intentional as the performances all would have fit right in any Friday the 13th movies. You come across as someone who was busy looking at their phone and getting distracted with snacks…didn’t ever focus on the film. The nuance and subtlety found all throughout this movie seemed wasted on you. The car keys with the toy car scene and how it played out was fantastic. I feel like anyone who actually appreciates slasher movies or just well-made movies in general should absolutely try to catch this in theatres. If jump scare movies with cliches are more what you’ve come to expect from horror films…well you need to try and broaden your tastes…but don’t bother with this one.

First off I love that you took the time to give me some detailed thoughts and opinions. I can appreciate your view on the film and know that others may enjoy it as well. You are not wrong to have your opinion and experience with the film. I'm glad you saw it and appreciated it for what it was. I think overall it was that the trailer set an expectation and the movie didn't match that expectation for me. It portrayed it self in a manner that resembled the intensity of a good, brutal, suspenseful horror movie but instead went a completely different direction. As for distractions... I actually don't use my phone at all while watching movies in the theater. I also don't get snacks or drinks because I don't want to have to go to the bathroom in the middle trying find the right moment to leave, missing anything important. I'm fully immersed in the experience of watching the movie through completely undistracted. I saw it by myself to not be distracted or get opinions from others as well. I did consider that maybe the acting was intentional to match the 80's slashers. But it just further brought down the feel of the movie for me. However I don't think that different performances would have really saved the movie or improve my enjoyment much more. There were lots of little nods that I could appreciate but it just didn't have the impact to really drive any excitement or "OH LOOK" moments. It just felt a bit dull and lifeless to me. Maybe that was the intent, to show how boring and unsuspenseful it would be to follow the killer every moment of the way. Jump scares aren't something I am looking for in this type of movie. I want it to feel intense, have a sense of consequence and dread. Personally I think the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre did an outstanding job ticking those boxes for me. But I just found that following the killer without anything but nature sounds didn't deliver on that without aid from a really good musical score. I do applaud the film makers for trying something different. Thanks for the thought out comment. I really do appreciate hearing others views and opinions. Thats part of the beauty of film to me is having these conversations whether we agree or not.

Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's for sure going to have its cult following and thats great because it is a unique movie. I went in knowing it was going to be following the villain like that but which is what intrigued me. But didn't know it was going to be so silent. Loved the idea and think it has potential but just was hoping for some more suspense and intensity based on the trailer. So for me I think expectations for what was going to be delivered didn't match the trailer.

It was definitely different. Glad you enjoyed it. I do applaud them for trying to step outside the norm. I'd give it another shot with a musical score added to it. But as it stands now it missed the mark for me. I agree also we can use a break from the possession, exorcist and ghost movies. Even though Late Night With the Devil was a solid original movie. But I don't need anymore ceiling crawling demon possession movies.

Yeah... the ending was so drawn out and lacked urgency, care and realism. There should have been some panic or concern on the drivers part. I left when the credits hit and didn't stick around to see if there was mid credit scene or anything. Typically i will wait at least til the credits start scrolling. So not sure if there was more.
