Was gonna say it’s one of the best films I’ve seen this year but that wouldn’t be much of a compliment given how shit cinema has been in 2024. It’s very, very good. I thought the gimmick would wear off but it had such intense vibes it worked.

It's an extremely well composed film, but I think without a more compelling narrative it isn't up there with the greats.

Is there something you feel would have helped the narrative? And when you say "greats" are you thinking slasher films or horror in general?

@@MustacheManMedia I suppose my issue isn't with the narrative/backstory not being *interesting* enough, but the silent killer POV format. I think formatting the movie from the perspective of the silent killer really boxes the director in as to how they are able to deliver information to the audience, it's not so much that the narrative wasn't compelling- just that overhearing the plot/backstory in the form of 3rd person exposition dumps made that information just seem that much less important. Which, in fairness, the plot comes off as secondary in most slashers anyways. Someone who knows more about film is probably pulling their hair out over my comment saying "THAT'S THE POINT THEY ARE MAKING, IS THAT THE PLOT IS IRRELEVANT TO THE ESSENCE OF A SLASHER". And I was thinking horror in general, but *specifically* for slashers I wouldn't hesitate to say this is one of the best I've seen.

Great response! And yeah, you sum it up really well and I venture to guess that this was the filmmakers intention. The teenagers and incidental's backstories and general feelings are of little importance in normal slasher films so I'm assuming that instead of insulting the viewer's intelligence with this trivial BS he left the exposition and banter as nothing but background noise. You are right that the director boxed himself in with this approach but I think we both agree that he pulled it off wonderfully.

Better than Terrifier 3 (which didn't suck). It gives me hope that indy filmmakers will continue to overtake Hollywood.

You are right! I think indie films will be the saviors of new horror films. I really like the risks that studios like A24 take.

Also, I have to add, in the video I mention seeing Terrifier 2. I was wrong. It was the first Terrifier. I'm actually half way through Terrifier 2 right now. I'll probably check out 3 at some point. You are not the only person saying it's not bad.

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it! The scene where the girl cuts his arm off was pretty intense! I almost passed out!

Me too! The way he was preparing himself for it contrasted to how ‘matter of fact’ she was when cutting it off was a little off putting…
