I see this kind of behavior all of the time working in the public school system with inner city kids (aka my babies). They start with a stand-offish/crappy attitude, then through persistent opportunities to talk/express themselves they eventually let me in. I have had students tell me countless times that they like that I listen to them instead of just yelling or scolding.

@@Nick.Ashton I'm going to have to disagree. Your kid and mine alike deserves attention because we chose to have them. Teens are human beings too; humans at a time of life with real conflict but not yet with the skill set to articulate why they feel what they do. It's really sad that some parents cant see the future situations they infact create by the way they parent and what they're cultivating in their child. Spoil the kid rotten then blame and resent the kid for being spoiled? 🤔 that's... well not logical.

That's what being a psychologist is like. People want to try and tell the one HELPING (Dr. Phil) how to do his job. You don't go to a co-worker telling him what to do when you're the new guy. You came here. You watch/sit and listen. If you dont like the options given to you, good luck with your life. You had them right there in front of you. Now you have to literally pay for more help or you just die a jerkoff.

This is a bit like how my piano teacher is when I frustrate him, except still less accusatory and confrontational than Dr. Phil here. I really appreciate that about him, he never just outright insults you or something, he kind of starts chuckling at how blatantly ridiculous my actions are to him and/or sighing and trying to repeat what he said with like questions (so why did you do A?) To which I have no answer. He is an extremely calm and reasoning elderly professor and his experience and level of provision made it possible for him to not have to go to such aggressive lengths because he chooses his students, and thus avoids such absolutely outrageous interactions that Dr. Phil thrive on.
