Hi Justin, amazing lesson as always. I have some difficulties going from the little riff (6th string 4th fret 1st fret 4th fret 5th string open) to the B flat power chord on the 6th string. There was another tutorial video whererin the riff was played different; 6th string 4th fret open 4th fret 5th fret. For me it's easier going to the B flat on the 6th after this but I'm wondering if this is still "correct".
@alexchapman39064 жыл бұрын
Pedal wise Kurt used a chorus and drive. SmallClone and a DS-1 and then later a DS-2 and an echoflanger. He used weird amps so it would be hard to get that down, play with your eq for that. Set your clean to match the verse and the DS will do the rest.

Hey Justin! I think the riff is played by the bassist, Krist. Kurt was a very simplistic guitarist, so not a ton of riffs for the most part. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in.

I am a bad guitarist, but I have found that a loose harmonic bar chord (a D bar (5th fret) lifted off so the 5/7 fret harmonics ring out instead of the natural notes) to be a Kurt signature thing.. in some versions of this song when the distortion is cranked right up I have seen him do this between the 1st/2nd chords of the verse quite often. When he forgot stuff he would replace who verses with this kind of harmonic bar on either frets 5/7/12 while letting the Bass do the work.

@CharlesEBusa11 жыл бұрын
Cool song. I'm not into the whole "playing it the RIGHT way" thing, though. As you said, Kurt probably played it several different ways. So whether you play an A5 chord with the root on the 6th or 5th string doesn't really matter, imho. Any cover, even with your own twist on it (especially with your own twist on it I should say) is always a nice tribute to a song or band you like. Rock on and keep those great vids coming, Justin ;)

Thank you Kurt Cobain for Nirvana and Nevermind! That album was just the kick in the overly tight pants the music industry needed at that time. We would all still be rocking horrible spandex and 10-foot teased out hair and pointy leopard-print guitars and spending 5 years trying to set up the Floyd Rose on it if it wasn't for Nevermind! Not that there's anything wrong with that...and I still love me some old Motley Crue...but still!!! And even the metal music got better after Nevermind!
