I can't thank you enough for this video. My prewire by my builder was exactly the same, with the wire boxes in the wall. I had no idea how I was going to get speakers in there when the directions said to steer clear of studs. Your directions worked perfectly. Thank you!

Thank you sooooo much for this video. This is my second house with speakers throughout but my first time to try installing the speakers myself. My installation is exactly like yours with the gang boxes. This will save me a lot of $$$$. Professional installers are anywhere from $75-$100 an hour. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!!

3) If possible, probe in the ceiling before you cut. You can do this through the junction box. Not sure if there is a better way, but I used a wire hanger and an iPhone. If there is not insulation, you can stick an iPhone into the junction box and take pictures or a video of what is inside the ceiling. I did this after the first one and it worked perfect every time. I found another water pipe in a picture I took with my iPhone probing and was able to plan around it.

You should clean the drywall dust inside the hole with a damp rag. The cut edge of the dry wall should be covered with masking tape to keep drywall dust out of the speaker. The worst thing for ceiling speakers is the drywall dust getting in the speaker from installing it or from vibration.

Oh, okkie, gotcha. Rules and regulations... ;) Other than that, I didn't say that the video is great and very well explained. Kudos!
@CarolineIris24712 жыл бұрын
1. Typically the guage of the wire is written on the outside jacket of the wire, if not, they sell tools that will help measure the gauge at places like Home Depot. 2. You should have a total of 5 satellite speaker locations(Left, Center, Right, Rear Left Surround, Rear Right Surround) 3. If the wires are not labeled, you will need to hook them up individually to your receiver and play sounds...then label them accordingly. It's tedious, but without markings the only way to do it.
@juandoe78024 жыл бұрын
I know that prices vary, but about how much was it to have someone prewire this for you because I'm about to build a home and wanted to place that in my budget because I love good home theater audio.

Something else you should do is test the speaker before you mounted it...could have bad wire, bad speaker, bad connection....do it enough times and testing it becomes instinct when you lose money on your own time and have to undo and troubleshoot for missing a simple but very important step...a few ways to test without having actual audio. Good speaking!

Hi there, The mounting bracket or as you mentioned it "feet" broke on my ceiling speaker. Can you please give a suggestion where to buy those "feet" or plastic mounting bracket? Those are the L-shaped plastic bracket that hold the speaker in place FYI...

Thank you for a nice video. My building is providing a 5.1 surround sound installed for $1200 in a new home. Paradigm. Can you tell me if this is a good deal or just have them pre-wire for $599 and buy speakers and install myself. Is it really worth the hassle to DIY.

I was wondering what keeps ceiling speakers from falling. If it's only drywall that supports the weight, won't vibrations from the speakers eventually loosen the entire board from the ceiling?
@JarCarTV4 жыл бұрын
On each corner of the speaker there are tabs that tighten against the drywall. I haven't had any issues with the speakers loosening over time (and this was done almost 10 years ago). The weight is negligible and you are right next to a ceiling stud. You should be ok as long as your drywall is in good condition.

Yes, we have enjoyed the Monoprice speakers. They have great sound. Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver A laser level is a tool that uses a laser to determine a straight line over a certain distance. If you don't have one, you can just measure a distance from a point on your wall to make sure your speakers are equal distance.

@CarolineIris24712 жыл бұрын
Oh ok, they should be fine then. I would just put the center channel on the tv stand where the TV is. What kind of receiver / amplifier are you going to be using?
@CarolineIris24713 жыл бұрын
@koa218 The wires all converted into a double gang hole behind where our entertainment center is. The wires were not labeled though so had to play around a bit to see which wire was to each speaker. I also used banana clips on the ends of the wires to make plugging in easier. Buy them off of Monoprice...very cheap and easy to install.

@koa218 You will probably need to go up in your attic if you dont know where the wires are now and there arent any faceplates. Our builder installed junction box with faceplates at our location. We also knew where they were because we selected the approximate location and watched the building process.

theyre pretty high up 2 inch away from the ceiling. the tv is on tv stand with two compartments for bluray etc.
@CarolineIris24712 жыл бұрын
Well that depends on your 2 front speaker locations? Is your tv going to be wall mounted or sitting on a tv stand? Typically you want your Left, Right, Center at the same height (typically at about the same level as your tv) because a majority of your volume comes from your center speaker (dialogue, etc).

@Srg859 жыл бұрын
Hi This video was really helpful in giving me an idea on how to start our own in wall speaker project. The only thing I am not sure of is getting the wires from the ceiling if the house is not pre-wired for 5.1 surround. Do you have any tips on doing this with all the sheet rock in place? Im thinking I would have to rip out alot of drywall to get all the wires in place. Is there a better alternative to that idea? Thank so much again.
@getahanddown9 жыл бұрын
+Serg S Cutting a neat hole then replacing it isn't the worst thing for a wall, do it properly and it's sweet. Also invest in a loooooong auger bit for making holes in hard to reach studs etc.
