I learned this watching him play it on PBS after wearing out the album when I was a kid. The album and the needle were so worn that I had to stack nickles on the "tone arm" of the "record player" to keep the needle down in the grooves. I got to see him a couple of times. You certainly do him justice. Thanks.

Thank you for keeping this faithful to the Fahey arrangement. There is great beauty in the simplicity of this piece. 👍

This was the very first tune I heard of John Fahey back in the 70's. I heard it here in Norway as a closing tune on a Swedish TV station. I was so transfixed in front of that TV set. Here were suddenly the sound that I didn't know I had been looking for. The next day I sat down and wrote a letter to that TV station and some weeks later I got a reply that that night they had been playing J F. That's how I got to hear about him and subseqently : Leo Kottke. But their music were hard to obtain at that time here in Scandinavia. Took me quite awhile to collect their albums. But I've even managed to get hold of a LP copy of Kottke's ''Circle Round the Sun.'' Needless to say you nailed even this one ! Keep 'em comming !

I love how faithfully accurate you are with Fahey's songs. I've been into Fahey since 1996 when I heard Poor Boys Long Way From Home. I had to learn that finger picking. I taught myself that and Requiem for John Hurt. I really wanna master Dance Of Death, which you play so well too.

NAILED IT. I love this tune - thanks for doing it justice.

You full on nailed Fahey's timing down to the nano second. The only logical explanation for this is that you were temporarily possessed by Fahey's spirit for just over three minutes of time. Science!

I just received a copy of your book today. The transcriptions are pretty amazing, a bit daunthing (so thankfully the tabs will help). I'd learned this song about 30 years ago and wanted to pick it up again, having gotten pretty rusty over the years. You play it faithfully, beautifully, I hope to get somewhere near... thanks!

I know you're waiting for the right guitar to do When the Catfish is in Bloom, but you're not going to find a Bacon and Day Senorita anytime soon and we all need to see if you can play it like Fahey :)

Magical, and you got that little bounce that he throws in. I've only heard Charlie Schmidt able to do that live.

Great cover! Fahey himself couldn't have played it better. And the Regal Jumbo was the perfect choice for this tune...... The 70 some years of "aging" makes for a classic sound that's hard to find in a newer guitar.

Andrew Lardner Yes Andrew, the book/pdf is fantastic, so your playing. Have begun with this tune and your transcription, now your video too: Perfect. But first have to do a lapsteel Fahey. Wished to have 30 hours a day, 6 more for picking the guitar. Cheers!

Beautiful song and fantastic cover. I didn't realize that it wasn't John Fahey himself till I scrolled down. You nailed it. I also like the cover by Marla Staple of the Staple singers done with electric instruments and vocals. Check it out ! Thanks for the inspiring video post, maybe just maybe I'll be able to get it up to speed. Happy holidays Mike

A very true and genuine Fahey feeling. This song brings back memories in me. The first time I ever played in front of hundreds of people I started with this song, and it was very appreciated by the audience who didn't know about Fahey at all. And my very first KZbin upload was also this song, not a very good take I must admit. Nowadays I only play and upload songs I've composed on my own. If you get the time you can check me up and see if you like my style, I prefer originality in front of perfect playing. BTW, is it a Koa guitar you're playing ? I recently bought myself a 40 years old Martin Koa, it's lovely to play.

I had to keep thinking about this comment until I realized what you were talking about. It actually is a coincidence. I tend to wear a lot of blue oxfords for work, I have at least 8 in the closet, people like to make fun of me for having the same look most days
@johngeddes78944 жыл бұрын
No better shirt, as far as I’m concerned. They are my favorites. Once I saw a red pinstripe Oxford on my sister in law and said that it looked familiar. She said it should; it’s yours! Then she asked could she have it, so I gave it to her.
