Great work Andrew! Really beautiful and very very close to the record. Thanks for keeping these beautiful songs from around 50 years ago alive. Reminds me of the first time I attended one of Leo’s concerts in 1977. I later learned the Crow River Waltz in lessons, and play the other two by ear. It helps me to watch you REALLY play the other two so I can improve. Thanks, and keep up the beauty!!

Hello Andy, great! Do you think that this piece could be learned from an (almost) intermediate player (like me)?
@andrewlardnerКүн бұрын
Would be hard to be certain. In general I don't find this too difficult apart from one chord grab. The "in-out" technique takes some time to develop. I've had students that have done clawhammer banjo and have had no problem learning the technique, others without that experience find it a significant learning curve. I find it mid level difficulty, but stylish execution every performance is a challenge for me, still working toward that. As with most things I record, wish I would have had a couple extra weeks to get it ready.

Lovely playing. What microphone stand are you using here?
@andrewlardner2 күн бұрын
The mic bar is Manfrotto, I thnk the stand is just something generic for a kick drum

What stings and string gauges do you prefer on your guitars?
@andrewlardner2 күн бұрын
My go-to is daddario pb light or medium, though I tend to use different strings and gauges on all of my guitars, dependent on construction, scale length etc. Some guitars have custom gauge sets and I keep silk and steel, nickel, bronze, and phosphor bronze around.

@@BeezerMatzen You can follow its development on the Hedges website. I believe it’s set for a 2025 release. It had some crowdfunding earlier.

Don't know much about music history or theory, but I have the feeling this is another one that owes more than a little to JS Bach, though I'm not one to ask, "What doesn't?" Beautiful rendition of something that's been in my listening memory for 50+ years.

Beautiful, well played. And thank you for including that extra bit that he added in the live shows. I have an audio only recording of me doing this (not very good, I wasn't a fingerpicker) followed by Echoing Gilewitz, they're two parts to one song for me. When I heard him do the extra bit at a live show I was amazed. I never would have thought of it. 🙂

Beautiful rendition of this Fahey tune, Andrew. I remember trying to learn this many years ago - worked out it was in open C and the rest seemed simple - 'seemed' being the operative word. These tunes with the deceptively simple repetitive alternating bass pattern can so easily end up sounding mechanical and lifeless when technique is the main focus. Finding and being guided by the spirit of the music is the key to playing well, at least I think so. Always a wonderful experience hearing your playing, Andrew. Please keep them coming.
