Mama Karen and Baba Greg many thanks for inspiring me. Baba Malcolm X is one of my favourite African leaders of all time. He was a great man who fought for us, inspired us and never forgotten us at all. I have fortunate enough to read about Baba Malcolm X since 1995. What I love about him that he uplifted himself against the hell that he went through as a youth with the murder of his father, him and his siblings putting into fostering to be racially abused and when he told by his teacher when he wanted to be a lawyer that he can never be a lawyer because he was black and he should be a carpenter. Malcolm being in jailed but he changed his life around with not only Islam but re-educating himself and the rest was history.

Some wise person once said "knowledge is power". I'd like to say THANK you Prof. Hunter and Dr. Carr for empowering us with the knowledge you share on In Class With Dr. Carr!! I love that you're featuring Bro. Malcolm X today. This brother was a wonderful human being who triumphed despite all that was done to vilify him!! It's unfortunate that so many of our people did not realize the 'jewel' we had in our midst until he was gone. Nevertheless, better late than never!! It's always nice to be reminded of the contributions of our ancestors!! And, Dr. Carr, you've done a masterful job, as usual, of giving us all the 'nuggets' on this brother!!!💯

Professor Karen, this was a very liberating and soul cleansing segment. It is soul cleansing because growing up under the religious social structure I was taught in the Black Church that Minister Malcolm X was in hell burning, as well would the followers of Minister Louis Farrakhan, I was taught our R&B music was "devil" music. It took me many years to shake off this indoctrination or to get out of the "trick bag" as Dr. Carr would say or get out of the "Matrix" as another Elder would describe. Thank you so very much Professor Karen and Dr. Carr for helping our people get out of the "Trick bag/Matrix".
@DrMichaelWalker3 жыл бұрын
All I can say is, "I understand what you're saying." But, as they might say in poker, "I also raise you one!" I've found that many times over the course of my life I've thought that I'd shaken that social and religious structure propaganda and indoctrination about Malcom and more. Only later to realize that ish is real and it's a constant awareness and openness that will allow me to discover and remember who I really am and what my people were before this settler colony ripped us from our geographical and spiritual roots.

That was well known in some circles of influence but was always given to the public as a magic moment in his life when he knew since 1957 there were Muslims of all colors in the world especially in Mecca Saudi Arabia. That come to “,Jesus “ moment (for lack of a better phase) was just propaganda.

I would love to hear Dr Carr's thoughts on Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. That would be a great discussion.
@dipthongthathongthongthong96913 жыл бұрын
Yes. Particularly on the latter. I would love to hear Dr. Carr debate John McWhorter. On critical race theory for example. Would pay to see that. I suspect however that such a debate would be propagandized. It raises the social vs governance structure dynamic. Who is Carr to McWhorter personally? How would the white power structure exploit a public “disagreement” between them for political purposes?
@dipthongthathongthongthong96913 жыл бұрын
Dr. Carr and Prof. Hunter can speak for themselves but my guess is he/they would avoid commenting thoroughly on the likes of Sowell... and debating MCWhorter, Glen Lourey and other black centrist conservatives as it serves the governance structure as public black-on -black intellectual antagonism. White people love black people’s public ideological take downs of each other.
@Polygroove13 жыл бұрын
@@dipthongthathongthongthong9691 I understand exactly where you're coming from. I was thinking more in the vain of the old Tony Brown forums from the early 70's that had Black People from different industries and backgrounds discuss these things without thought of what the "white power structure" considered. They didn't agree on everything but it was intellectual debate. If outside forces try to politicize it, it's because, as with most things they try to subvert, it's hitting a nerve. My opinion is that if the shoe was on the other foot they wouldn't lose sleep over how we felt about them discussing how to improve their lot in society. Anything dealing with race and power structure is a raw subject because you get into equality, humanity and human rights...etc. In today's climate I would just be interested in what Dr Carr agrees or disagrees with with those gentlemen so that I can see both sides of the coin from an intellectual perspective.

I was 14 the first time I heard about Malcolm X and since then I’ve been reading his speeches, autobiography, watching movies, documentaries on brother Malcolm and for me he is a man I respect, admire, a visionary, a truth teller, a brave and courageous advocate for his people. Actually not only for his people but for all of us the black and brown looked down and undermined in every possible way for so long . I want to reflect back to Profs Hunter and Carr the question she asks often, and that is how does this free us? Harold Cruse wrote about an accumulation of social issues in 1967. Those accumulated issues persist to this day. I can't express how much I appreciate these classes, but how do we translate the information gained here into solving those social issues thus freeing ourselves? How do we convert this knowledge into solutions that the Black/African American community can use?
@DrMichaelWalker3 жыл бұрын
Daniel, that's a good question. However, I sense in the question the seeds of perhaps some frustration and just maybe a mistake that I've made myself in the past. That error that I've made often in my life is to look for a roadmap to a specific destination along with a grand send-off. Now, I am taking little steps to start on my sphere of influence. For example, taking this time to respond to your comment, hopefully in a positive and encouraging manner, will reverberate far and wide. Malcolm, or as I prefer, el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, set that example in how he responded to Yuri Kochiyama and her inquiry. But, if you go back and listen with ears listening for ideas, I'm sure you'll hear something that will spark a fire in your consciousness. When you do, I'm sure I'll see the results. Best wishes.
@danieldhardman53883 жыл бұрын
@@DrMichaelWalker Let me be clear. What you sense are not "seeds of frustration" but full grown, mature plants of pisstivity. Furthermore, they are not mistakes but the natural outgrowth of a lifetime of disappointment. But here we are. So how do I continue to inspire my children to vote and believe things will get better when as we speak a new voting rights bill--the 3rd in this nation's history if my count is correct--languishes in Congress in 2021? Don't get me wrong, I know Profs Hunter and Carr are doing their part. But are they the only ones? If Cruse laid things out so precisely back in 1967, why is there such a shortage in 2021 of Black/AA Intellectual thinkers doing what Hunter and Carr are doing? Ok, maybe I'm missing something and if so, I stand corrected. And I'll say again I am super appreciative of and excited about what this team is doing. But the urgency I sense among us definitely has me concerned. I'll be honest with you. I don't think we have time for little steps. We need to cover some significant ground soon.
