Xavier is wrong on a couple of things. India invited Atif, and Rahat due to embarrassment after the invention and popularity of youtube. Otherwise, Bollywood and Music industry was stealing the music of Nusrat, Atif Ali Azmat etc for years. Over 99% of Indians were not aware of this stealing but the invention of youtube exposed the truth. Please don't forget that India has placed a ban on Pak TV, Music, news, magazines since the early 1990's to block Pak soft power and to keep a monopoly over North Indian entertainment.

All these years that we’ve been a fan of his music and it’s the first time we’re actually getting to really know him! Sad to say that our traditional media has failed our artists for who they really are. But I’m glad it was you who interviewed him since most of our interviewers on traditional media don’t even know how to respect artists. Very brilliantly done!

15:43 D'Silva town is in North Nazimabad. My school, St.Judes', is still there. Used to be such a nice locality but like rest of North Nazimabad, it is in ruins now. Just like Xavier said, I don't recognize Karachi either. People in the 80s and 90s used to be so much happier. By the way Bryan Adams performed in Karachi as well but by then it was too little too late to revive the soul of the city.

One of the best podcast on this platform. Kya sufi banda hai. Shallum Xavier good to hear ur clear views. I feel sad for these creative people just bcoz they are born in a different geo (which is actually the same) missed out a hell lot of opportunities. Not beating the chest abt India but yaha milti hai yaar opportunities if you are talented even ab toh Entrepreneurs bhi celebrate hone lage hai musicians, actors aur cricketers toh GOD level pe hai. most recent examples are KZbinrs who have made a hell lot of fortunes and fame just because they have certain audiences.

@@medqueen1808 bro I am talking about in general. There are good opportunities for people who are hard working and have little bit of sense. India main booming industry is IT. Young young under 30s making a hell lot of money. These main stream industries have changed the scenario. Coming to Art and craft things - people have hell lot of opportunities, obvi there is a tuff competition but apart from Bollywood we have many Private production houses and now Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon is Turing things rapidly. India's growth is bound to have. Our vast population is blessings in disguise (obv it has its own set of challenges) but bro believe me things has changed a lot in last 15-20 years in India.

Wow! One word to sum it up. I have never heard/listened to any podcast more than 60 minutes but how this whole episode passed, “pata hi nahi chala”. So much to relate, learn and then takeaway from a prescriptive of an individual who has done so much for the country. Thank you Junaid Akram for being such an awesome person Shallum to you podcast. Time well spent!

This is The Best Podcast.I love this guitarist from my Teenage life.Fusion was My favorite Band I totally agree with Junaid bhai We were so Desperate about the music and songs.I also used to watch IM channel and many other music channels I was so addicted. And I also listened FM.The way they are talking about the Karachi in 90s it was very very Nostalgic.Very Realistic discussion really.Thank u sooo much Junaid bhai for inviting him on The show.Thank u for making long video with Shallum Xavier Legend.

Excellent episode, the entire conversation felt very grounded and very "Karachi"! Being a Karachiite and a huge Pakistan Music fan since the time of programs like Music Channel Charts and VJ, it pains me to be a witness of the downfall of Pakistani music industry in the last decade or so. However, I am hopeful for its revival, as the Pakistani Music still lives on strong!

Hi Shoaib, I've lived through this time in Karachi and it was great. Really enjoyed the music scene back then and loved going to concerts. On a side note, hearing how good and progressive we were as a nation back in the 60s and 70s, the early 2000s are no comparison then ;)

Prolly the first podcast which I watched from start till the end, followed by a revisit to Akhiyan by Fuzon. Music was so fresh in those years. You guys should have appreciated Pepsi though, they came in late but recently have promoted band culture again. I would ask everyone to hear the pepsi battle of the bands original music, you guys will enjoy it. Also give them views so they know they gotta continue doing it.
