Re: Cyrille Laurent and Purito - many of us were skeptical because Cyrille didn't actually present any evidence to back up what he was saying, and he's been quite wrong about sunscreen in the past (for example his "Evy Stop Lying" series of posts, and his misunderstanding of how UV absorption spectra work when he said sunscreens with DHHB and octyl triazone don't have UVA2 protection (I explain it at 5:30 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKiQan2mnciSma8)). When the testing evidence came out more widely (Judit from INCI Decoder sent it to Cyrille early for some reason), we all changed our minds.

This! I don't even so much blame the company itself, as companies exist only to make a profit and protect their bottom line. It's the obsessed young fans that ruin things, the ones who get their info from low-information KZbinrs and can't handle the fact that some people may not like the same products they like. Michelle is a lovely person. Her content is always so informative & educational. She was one of the first people to call out The Inkey List for their shady marketing practices. Sad to see she's been the victim of all this online bullying & harassment. I'm honestly so disappointed by "influencers" who are corrupted by sponsorship money. They've sold out their integrity & credibility to large corporations.

I saw this video and found it informative and Michelle was Professional as always, and kept it factual. It is saddening to hear the backlash that she is experiencing, but as always, it is a reflection of the character of those participating in this stupidity and not Michelle. I absolute love Lab Muffin and her straight talking no bs matter of fact science. I'm not surprised this has happened to her but I am very disappointed. Michelle has brought a wealth of knowledge to the skincare community and I for one have learned an awful lot from her. It's a sad day that someone gets blocked and harrassed for being morally intact. And apparently the ceo of that company has a history of harrassing people on line who don't like the products and/or speaking ill of them to others too. Hi Rob i don't use instagram etc and had no idea this was going on. What I will say is anyone who posts on social media has to develop a thick skin - there will always be people who are unkind on there and love the anonymity of these platforms to spread hate etc. What probably affected her more was the other influencers behaving in this way - these so called friends were obviously shallow and not worth having. We've all been disappointed in some people through this life and whilst hurtful at the time, proves to be a blessing in the long run - much better to know they're not trustworthy prior to something more personal being shared inappropriately. I like Michelle's youtube content and find her perspective really useful, with the scientific and factual information given re formulations. I'm sorry she's upset about it, but blocking those that leave nasty comments is unfortunately a reality of social media. The influencers who did this should be ashamed and the brand itself is probably a "flash in the pan" - how many brands come an go every year? It's an extremely saturated marketplace and bad behaviour will not be tolerated by a new brand. All in all just a debacle. Best wishes.

Love her and it is disappointing to hear she is getting shunned. Based on my experience in other industries, I would not be surprised if the companies sponsoring the other influencers had something general in the contract on how to approach negative reviews of the brand from others.

This video is why I love you and your channel so much! I’ve been a fan of labmuffin/Michelle for a long time now and when I’m wondering about sunscreen and what sunscreen video I need to share on Facebook I go to her channel. As you remind us (and a couple of other KZbin skincare channels) everyone’s skin is different. I love the science she shares with us. I’ve learned to unsubscribe from channels when the owner(s) seem to be unethical or dangerous. I encountered a channel that would throw problematic things out in their videos. When I realized it was harming my mental health I unsubbed.

Of course, someone with a Ph.D. gets bashed, for stating facts. Black-on-white, facts. She clearly states what is science, what is her personal opinion, what suits her skin/hair, she knows how to write scientific papers, therefore, she knows how to express her opinion clearly - differentiating between subjective, objective, and scientific. As a highly educated person, I am very grateful for her work - the people who call her out are probably not educated enough to understand how she speaks, so they are quick to bash her.

She might have been courteous in her negative review of MOF, but she's eye-rolling, snarky and condescending in her review of specific KZbinrs who advocate for 'clean beauty,' which she called "a scam" and whom she dismisses as "fear mongering" (like, why anyone would be specifically out to 'monger fear?' There are perfectly valid reasons for distrust in the industry, even if the KZbinr happened to be incorrect about some detail - and for the record - Michelle never actually offers any evidence for the safety of the products these YT'ers are cautioning against, she just kinda treats them like idiots). I think she has some valid points, but her message would have been a lot more persuasive if it didn't come off as so snotty, and that why I think she doesn't get the support on things like this. She could have just stated her thoughts without all the attitude. Like you said, it's not the message, it's the delivery.

People can't handle the truth and instead attack it. Brands literally have a lot of brainwashed fans under the name of "loyalty" when it's just regularly surrendering to self-exploitation. I think skincare communities have a lot to talk about the psychological side of these things. Is it really for our skin's health? Or is it a purchase of a feeling? Maybe you can make a video on this. I agree! To attack her for giving her review that was honest vs based on possible sponsorship, says a lot about those influencer’s. If they turn on her over money, I would have to call their reviews into question. I had rather you rip apart a brand I love than for you to talk about loving it to make $$$. On top of that, personal attacks are never called for. There are plenty of influencers that I really dislike and I show that by not watching their content. No, they will never know or care that I am not supporting them but I am not going to be a jerk to them (ok, if the spread hate based on race, sexuality, religion, ect, I am probably going to call them out but that is a different level). first time i heard about Matter of fact was in a sponsored video by Amanda Z. i trusted her a lot before this, and was a bit puzzled by her raving about this $100 serum she'd never mentioned before. it seems to me like she had been sucked in by all the "science" talk the brand pushes and was convinced by them that their serum was one of a kind in terms of results. if an influencer has never even mentioned a brand before, and they suddenly do a sponsored video for them, that's a bad sign.

When it comes to Cyrille, even if he wasn’t right, it’s perfectly fine for people to be sceptical. Maybe someone had a bad outcome, maybe they have insider information, maybe they just had an incling, etc. Like you said, as long as you are professional in how you bring it up/talk about it, then it should be received openly. In all honesty, I did not see his video on this so I am unaware of his delivery. None of us want to hear bad things or scepticism when it comes to things or people we like but keeping an open mind to others opinions can help us see things from different perspectives which is something we should welcome. You don’t have to agree in the end but their opinion is still valid. As for Michelle calling him out, she is human and naturally we all have biases. I would personally look at this situation from the: as long as their future actions show growth and change view. It wasn’t the right thing to do. However, maybe being in this situation can help her be aware of biases in future situations.

I come to MAS and Lab Muffin for information, not mutual fan clubs. Michelle is nothing but polite and professional (as s Rob). The consumer must take the intiative to stay informed. Well, those people labelled as "friends", they are not and unfortunately you find out who are your real friends when things go sour for you. she can make a good clean up at least. Also now, money is above ethics... which is very sad and show how bad is our society.... I would always choose a content creator with ethics for sure!
