I would be grateful if you said something more about how telogenes in the skin work. I remember years ago reading a terrifying article about how exfoliation and reinoids shorten telogenes in our skin and therefore are really harmful in the long run. It successfully put me off using those in my skincare until now. I know you mentioned somewhere that that's not true and that's not how skin works, but I'd be interested in learning something more. Thank you for this video :)
@ManUntdForever3 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion; I’d love to know more about telogenes as well!
@TheKeybladeKeeper3 жыл бұрын
Medical student here so I have a lot of biology/biochem background. Telogens are part of our DNA. When our cells turn over, it requires them to copy our DNA for the “daughter cell.” While the copying happens, due to the way DNA is read to make the copy, it misses a small bit of the DNA. Telogens are essentially caps on the end of DNA (think like the caps of our shoe laces) that prevents the DNA from fraying. As our cells turn over throughout our life, this leads to the cap getting smaller and smaller. That’s why things that increase cell turnover (like exfoliating and retinoids) can lead to these telogens being used up sooner. We also have an enzyme called telogenase whose job is to replace our telogens, but we can’t simply give people more of this enzyme bc it can lead to uncontrolled cell growth which could develop into skin cancer.

I have been using glycolic acid for around 3 years now and a few days ago I overexfoliated my skin for the first time. It gave the effect of 0.05 tretinoin on me. My skin is a little peely and a little red, but it doesn't look that bad. Thankfully from years of eczema I know how to deal with dry peely skin. I'm back to just using gentle cleansers, sunscreen, and excipial emulsion with 4% urea. I hope my skin can recover soon. I know that excipial is mainly for eczema on the body, but it worked great on my face for years. It's deeply hydrating, moisturising, and strengthens the skin barrier with urea. It's the only thing I can put on my damaged skin that doesn't sting, and it keeps my skin hydrated all night long so I don't feel the dryness when I wake up in the morning.

Firstly, are you sure it's dead skin and not your products interacting? Sunscreens can often do this and it looks like a lot of skin coming off. Otherwise yeah, it could just be that whatever you're doing in the rest of your routine isn't getting enough dead skin off, so even wiping your face with a wash cloth after cleansing could help.

I have a “crusty” skin type. Which is also why I’m a chronic sufferer of dandruff. I’ve tried many “superior chemical exfoliants” which successfully drained my wallet and irritated my skin. Even with frequent and heavy moisturizing, using oily moisturizers to seal in the moisture, and occasional exfoliating. I still get crusty and flaky skin, it’s only visible with makeup though. I settled with, cleaning my oily zones more often than the dry parts of my face. Using salicylic acid where I need it, instead of the already dry parts. When I don’t physically exfoliate, skincare and makeup just sits on a layer of dead skin. I figure it’s best for me to see a professional, it’s just a matter of when I’m able to.

Michelle now that clascoterone/winlevi got approved as the first anti-androgen topical drug for acne, can you please tell us whether it is worth the hype? They completed phase 3 trial, published it and the drug got approved by the FDA, does it really make a big difference in terms of acne and sebum production? A small early study from 2011 showed it to be more effective than tretinoin at treating acne but after phase 3, I wonder if that turned out to be true!

Firstly would like to say that I really enjoy your well-prepared educational videos I literally love your channel.❤️I was asking myself if you could do smt. like “an active ingredients guide “& maybe a short section about which active ingredient should not be used with an another one . Ithink that is really important in skincare there is so much information is there like I read myself already to death😂

I never use chemical acids, I just use asian beauty peeling gels and gentle power enzyme cleansers like the wishtrend green tea one and the DHC powder wash. I'm too scared to use acids for the sensitivity

Exactly,this is what i say to people around me but still people are people particularly the girls now a days too much obsessed with skin perfection that they use things on their skin without proper guidance. You tube give information but that's not prescription according to one's skin condition. So, no matter how many doctors , chemist say correct things about skin care in you tube but it's still best to visit certified dermatologist or professionals and know about own skin, requirements etc before indulging one self into potent actives or treatments.
