Yeah you can not have the Copyright or TradeMark symbol INSIDE your design and you will be told to fix it upon new registration or The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office should have at some point said HEY , you need to not print your logo/design with the symbol inside of it. Basically clarifying that your logo is what it registered, not the symbol indicating its registration. I forget when, but they updated the rules to advise symbols were not printed inside logos. Campbell Soup Company had to do that when they were advised to take their symbol OUT of their rectangle Logo.

Maryland's flag is awesome. Actually one of my favorites! It's modeled after the coat of arms of the first Lord Baltimore. The worst/coolest municipal flag was in a small town in New Jersey. I was appearing in court and while sitting, waiting patiently for a dispute about a rooster to be resolved, I noticed that the flag on the wall behind the judge was drawn in marker on a bed sheet. It featured the pyramids and crossed checkered flags (the town has a racetrack). I was delighted.

Maryland's flag is beautiful design. It utilizes color effectively, is incredibly recognizable. You can recognize a Maryland flag from a mile away. Also we actually use our flag here, we put it on everything (my local supermarket has a section just for Maryland flag merch). People say it's "too complicated" but a version of the MD flag drawn by a 7 year old is still recognizable.

I get what you're saying about compromise, but there's definitely a "too many cooks in the kitchen" feeling to the Milwaukee flag that takes all of the significance away from it. I think that honestly overpowers any "earnestness" that it has. There's so much on the flag that it ALL ends up being insignificant. A flag should represent the whole city, but not every single aspect of the city.

I'd heard of Roman Mars and 99% Invisible before, but I had no idea that he was they guy from the TED talk I've watched at least 3 times!
