In Defense Of Bioshock 2

Bioshock 2 is seen as the black sheep of the Bioshock family. I believe that it's a game that is underrated for what it brings to the table and shouldn't be looked down upon. Here's a video explaining why I believe Bioshock 2 deserves another look at!

Bioshock 2 was the last game I ended up playing in the franchise, and while I'll admit it didn't quite capture me the way 1 and Infinite did, I do remember loving the opening cutscene, liking the better combat mechanics, and enjoying the Minerva's Den DLC. My first playthrough was just over a year ago, though, and after hearing all of the praise you and others have given this game, I'm very willing to go back and give it a second shot. In terms of combat gameplay, I think it's the best out of all 3 games. Infinite is better in terms of the chaotic gameplay aspect though since you're zipping everywhere and adding new objects with Elizabeth. Thank you very much for the kind comment! Much appreciated ^^

Honestly, I'm very tempted to give the Bioshock games a try. This one looks so good, despite what people have said about it. I understand that they didn't much like it because they felt that it felt more like an expansion rather than a base game. I feel like people got lost in that opinion of it and eventually, the sheep had been herded. But as someone from the outside who has never played Bioshock, the game looks great. You made many great points about the game, and I feel that it's a bit unfair how people have been treating it over the years. It deserves another chance, and hopefully your video helps urge people to try it again :3

It's for sure a game I liked a lot myself but I also had the experience of being able to play it right after Bioshock 1 as well lol Still a fantastic experience overall!

While it may not be anywhere near as instantly iconic and groundbreaking as the original. I personally consider Bioshock 2’s story to be a far more emotional and powerful narrative. Sure, Infinite took it to the next level. But the idea of Subject Delta searching desperately for Eleanor opens up a number of different interpretations. Some players may see it as a hulking badass trying to find the young girl who can keep him alive and dealing out justice to those who betrayed them. But a lot more find it to be a heartwarming journey of a loving father out to rescue his beloved daughter. I find Delta being a mute, genetically modified, simple minded Big Daddy to be surprisingly even more touching when you consider that he perhaps genuinely loves and cares for his adopted daughter far more than her actual biological mother. The characters and the moral choices are also far more powerful and can greatly affect how you prefer the character of Delta to be. I personally gravitate to him being a true hero and teaching Eleanor the power of mercy and forgiveness over her mother’s hypocrisy. The good ending for the game brought a tear to my eye the same way the good ending for the original did. I will always consider it a worthy addition to the franchise. I actually believe Infinite was far more inspired by this one than the first game. Bioshock 2 walked so that Infinite could run.

Yes, absolutely! Not every story needs to be extremely grandiose in scale. Sometimes a more, down to earth and relatable story will hit the player better. Definitely agree with you there about Infinite's story being heavily influenced by Bioshock 2.
